Re: For those who are on 16 profile, what's your actual speed?

said by wally_walrus:

just got bumped up to the 19455/1085 profile, and now my speeds are over 16M. SNR margins also upped a bit to over 7dB. Hooray, hope it stays that way

So what are your download speeds now? I'm getting 1.6 MBPS max on the lower profile. Are you averaging more than that now? I guess your getting up to 1.9 now?

Line still syncs at 16319/798. Gonna call TSI to have the profile raised.

I just upgraded to the 10Mbps service this week.

My line stats are those:

I notice that I sync with a 12Meg profile on the downstream, is it the profile BELL usually gives to their wholesale customers?

I would like to ask for a profile raise of my upstream (upgrade from 798kbps to 1Mbps), but don't want to loose my 12Meg profile...

Any advice?

I shouldn't really comment on your stats as I usually go entirely by the RCO, but unless I'm mistaken the higher the SNR, the more headroom there is on your line. My SNR was 17.5dB at 797Kbps, before my bump, and it's 9.5dB after, at 1085Kbps. Assuming if you got the bump that your stats would change to the same degree that mine did (which may not be the case, I'm on a Broadcom remote for example, and your attentuation[ie: the distance to the remote/CO] is a lot higher than mine), I think that might put your upstream at close to marginal, but I believe it might still be acceptable. Someone who really knows what they're talking about will have to say for sure.

As for advice, just looking at the rest of the thread should show that right now luck plays a very big role (a far too big one probably everyone but Bell would say). It doesn't look(to my definitely non-expert eyes) like you'd get your downstream dropped based on stats anyway, but that may not end up having anything to do with it in the end unfortunately. Sooo helpful eh!

Here is my 16/1 in Kitchener using a TP-Link 8816 modem.
I'm pretty damn happy with this install as it went really smooth and I'm seeing a solid 2.0MB/s with usenet.

I lost sync on my modem around noon when I was being moved around by the Bell tech and the telecon guy visited around 3pm.
He was in a real rush as he had 16 more work orders to do that afternoon.

He installed the pots splitter and I had him just wire up an easily accessible jack so he could check the sync and take off faster.
After he left I went and swapped pairs in my computer room and was quickly online.

Are you stable with those stats? The downstream is at 6 which is iffy and your RCO is at 99% on the upstream. These are my stats for comparison.

Yes I am,
I'd still like to try another modem at some point and there is some wiring that I could probably clean up.

Formerly I worked for Bell a few years ago (Dark Days when the Nortel Modems were still in the wild... wonder if they finally finished the force upgrade of those...)

Anyways I know my line can handle the 19mbps profile, and am 'suffering' on the 16mbps profile. Mainly because I am also on the 800kbps profile and the lack of a full 1mb upload is actually causing my downloads to suffer due to ACK limits of all things.

Tried doing direct support and was told there is nothing Teksavvy can do... don't like feeling like I'm the victim of inter-company politics.

The unfortunate thing about the 19M profiles, is that it's the same story as those who got the 7M profile when they were paying for 5/6 megs. Some get lucky! If it's on 16megs, we can't asked to get it upgraded to 19.

Martin

Can't you just click "Optimize" in Bell's portal on the clients line? Because Velcom did that to me and the profile was bumped in a few minutes to 19453 kbits from 16319 kbits.

The RCO needs to be below a certain percent to allow us to use the optimize button. We don't have it for all clients when the RCO is above the threshold.

How is RCO estimated? One can have good line stats but the RCO is high or over 100% (like in my case).

I don't how the RCO is calculated.

I am 9 houses from a fiber remote, and yes I know where the wire is. I haven't grabbed line stats from my current modem. However I know lantern showed me as having a very good line well within specs to get any future ftn offerings.

Weird part I can't figure out is why the RCO changes for me with DMT stats. Earlier after rebooting the modem the downlink RCO was 93%. Now it's 114%. Uplink stays steady at around 95%.

What did the downstream noise margin look like when you were at 93% RCO. Just noticed your downstream tx power is zero! Something is up.

There is a button that upgrades the profile like that?

If the circumstances are right, Yes. Like it said the RCO needs to be under 80% on both Up and Down.

Interesting. My RCO was below 60-65% and i was told that there was no optimize button on my account/profile.
