Between 1-5 so i called charter around 5:30 to see what was up and was told he had already been here and said the Main Line that is strung on the poles needed to be replaced and that they was going to do that today. As that has to actually be done by In house charter line techs. Line techs do not come out to replace service drops. They have more important things todo. If the drops needed to be replace the FTS employee would have done that yesterday when it was sunshine, instead of having another FTS employee come do it when A big storm front was about above our head with the treat of half inch to inch and half hail in these storms.
? now if my internet is much faster and actually loading the webpages since it started raining and cooling off drastically do really think that is the service drops??
And they was just replaced last year. agian. so do you really thing that they need replacing again??

He also confirmed it was a line issue. he had a 39.5 reading at the pole And also had 39.5 reading At the side of the house so the Drop could not be bad. his words not mine. After he is the one that was reading the meter

It may have been replaced a day later because the first guy was told not too, he was called to another job, he rescheduled it for today, or any other number of reasons.
39.5 is just a number. Without a reference to what it's measuring it's meaningless, is it return level, DC loop resistance, SNR, ingress level, etc? Also a single number on it's own doesn't give a complete picture of the line condition. It could pass return level fine but allow ingress or egress if it's damaged.
I've replaced plenty of drops in the wind and rain. It goes with the job. I've also seen plenty of prescheduled line work be delayed because of emergencies caused by storms. Call Charter again and ask about the line replacement or better yet try the direct forum here. -- If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes. |

If the drop was bad would that those stats not get worse ???
The cable guy that was here yesterday did not get called on another call. I suppose you did not see where i typed while he was on the ladder at the pole he got a phone call and was told he was not suppose to be on this job per the job was referred to the line techs to replace the MAIN line per the line tech that was supposedly here earlier in the day. And he had already done 10 jobs already when he showed up here not that really makes a difference. the 39.5 he was specifically checking to see if the service drop needed to be replaced and actually said it was perfect.
The main line is the original line that was installed way back when was it in the 80's or when ever cable tv came to this area.
I do not care what needs to be done they can waste $$ on 2 service drops to not fix the problem I just want my TV signal to be fixed, it sucks when it freezes up goes pix elated snowy voice is 30 seconds behind lip movement like it does OTA And im on a cable which i pay for. Which should have been fixed on March 6th when i first called it in.
ANd every body does agree it is a upsteam issue as per the title of this thread.
The problem is there is not enough charter customers on my street to justify $$$ to replace the main line or Line amp Cause charter already run everybody off to uverse or direct tv cause the would not fix the issues with the main line. And now since these storms Ill probably have to live with this for another month. As outages take precedence. I have a Big screen tv for the clear picture!! Not for what is happaning.
and since they when to the passport software on the dvr's instead of SARA software there is no longer diagnostic screens in the DVR other wise I would have more information to provide. About ready to buy my own meter Guess ill need to go to the bank and take out a loan to get one.

I'd also say the drop replacement was a preventative measure. Damage to them is common. It's replacement shouldn't hurt anything if the original was good, it could help if the original was bad. The drop can be damaged and allowing ingress or egress but not show any excessive signal loss. So the stats on your modem may not change even if the drop is bad. It takes measurements of other signal stats (such as ingress measurements) to really know if the drop is bad. Often it's just quicker to change the drop then go through all the trouble of measuring and interpreting the various signal levels needed to really know if it's bad. Often field tech management has a standing policy to change the drop if it's questionable at all because it's such a frequent problem.
Call Charter or use the direct forum here to check the status of the main line replacement.

Sorry for not posting back Sooner some things Came up.
But anyway I have had both service drops replaced. The tech said he would also escalate for a line tech but still have not seen one.{ will call a little later to check status}
Still have the same issues with having to reboot modem for brows-ability. And still getting the UCD errors when it is warm. The warmer it gets seems to make the - number worse in the stats of the modem. Currently they are.
