Re: [Theory] Deadline to P2E Business model?

Dang I didn't know having an MBA allowed one to make assumptions based off empirical evidence. I should really start using my powers.

Anyway, is it likely that Blizz is losing subscribers. Of course 2 million is unheard of, because WoW had unheard of numbers to begin with. In order to compare, you need to analyze the percentage of subscriber loss compared to other MMOs.

The Blizz layoffs probably have very little to do with WoW because WoW is not the only game Blizz makes. They are about to make a killing with D3 and Panda Express.

Anyway back to your original thought. I would start playing WoW again if they got rid of their subscription fees and simply charged for extra stuff like current free mmo's do. But I think the cash cow is still too lucrative before they entertain this thought. Once they start closing servers, then we will see them reach alternatives.

i used to scoff at the idea of "frre to play" games being any good. Then I started playing a few facebook games that are offered by Zygna, Kabam, and a couple of other companies.
Then I decided why not try a free to play MMO, so I went for Dungeons and Dragons online, and DCUniverse. They are both fun games to play. And neither appear to be harmed by being free to play.
These companies survive by selling access to dungeons, game areas, and unique equipment.
In regards to WOW, I think Blizz would have a revolt on it's hands.
Imagine being able to buy a lev 80 toon, then buying gear for that toon through the blizz store. So when you log in you have a toon that is ready to hit raids or battlegrounds. Meanwhile you'll have players that don't spend the cash, still going through the grind of trying to get the gear they need.

It only costs $14.95-$12.99 +$3.00 (for BC) to get a Lv 80 toon, with 4x 20 slot bags and Lv 80 Green Gear. Then merge...
