Re: IGNORING this thread since 2011! Stupidly Easy Spanish Rice:
1 medium onion chopped 6 cloves garlic, crushed and chopped. 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 teaspoon hot giardinera in oil.
Combine ingredients in a sauce pan and sautee over medium high heat until onions are translucent.
Add 1 cup uncooked Basmati Rice.
Continue to sautee until rice starts to brown at the edges.
Add
1 can Campbell's Chicken Broth 1 cup President's Choice Medium Salsa 1 pinch of Saffron
Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low, and simmer with tight cover for 15 minutes.
Serves 4
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Asian Style Pineapple Pork Chops:
In a small bowl marinate 4 thick pork chops in 1/4 cup sherry wine and 1 tablespoon soya sauce for 15 minutes.
In a large frying pan or wok with a cover heat up two tablespoons of olive or corn oil on medium high.
Add:
1 large onion chopped 1/2 Green Bell Pepper Diced 6 cloves garlic crushed and chopped 1 teaspoon hot Italian giardinera in oil.
Sautee until onions are translucent. Meanwhile drain pork chops and dredge them in all purpose flour. Toss the pork chops into the pan along with the onions pushed to the edge and brown for a couple of minutes on each side.
Meanwhile in another small bowl mix 1 can crushed pineapple, 1 tablespoon soya sauce, 1/4 cup red wine vinegar and 3/4 cup brown sugar.
When pork chops are browned, dump mixture into the pan and stir to deglaze the pan. Add 1 cup cold tap water if necessary and bring to a boil, then cover and lower heat to simmer for 40 minutes.
Time the two dishes appropriately to serve both hot at the same time. I usually turn on the heat for the rice pot once the pork chops start to simmer.
Dinner for 4 in under an hour...
Enjoy
(Note: If you don't have any giardinera substitute your own favorite hot peppers. Jalapeno, Habanera, etc... ) |

JF , having finally finished watching Arrested Development last night, spent this wonderful day rebuilding his bike instead of riding it. Damned you Netflix addiction :-( :-(
And now, Guspaz suggested Better off Ted, and diskace had suggested Breaking Bad. So my addiction isn't cured yet. And this week is the start of the 2 weeks of CRTC hell with a gazillion deadlines.
So, enjoy your barbeques and cheap internet access while I labour on this CRTC stuff I am starting to think I should ignore. |

Asian Style Pineapple Pork Chops:
Smells delicious.
Mine is even easier, though not unique by any means.
It's a 'One Pot Wonder', based on pork chops.
Into a 10 or 12" diameter 'deep' frypan with an available lid, place 2 or 3 pork chops, your choice of cut, though I like the 'rib end' (same cut as beef prime rib steaks) ones myself.
Wash hands with dish soap after handling the raw meat.
Sprinkle some sage and black pepper on top of the chops, but NO salt.
Brown one side on medium-high, (cooking oil optional, depending on the pan, the cut of the chops, and your taste).
Break free but do NOT turn the chops.
Turn down heat to medium, add some fresh potatoes and onions, cut to your preference of size of pieces (other veggies optional or separate), then cover and cook for 30 minutes to an hour on medium.
Add a can of Campbell cream of mushroom condensed soup, schmeared over the chops (push other ingredients aside to allow this). - Do NOT add the can of water as per the can instructions.
Cover again, turn heat down to low (but not as low as 'keep warm') and cook for an another hour or more, or until meat falls off bones (or apart, depending on the cut).
This whole process could last several hours, but only really requires attention during the first hour or so.
Serves 2 to 3, depending on quantity and weight of chops, pan size, and appetites.
Diners will add salt to taste, though what's in the soup may be enough.
Variations can include different types of potatoes and onions and optional veggies, and other spices of the chef's choice, as long as they do not step on the mushroom soup flavour too much, which itself includes onion, garlic, and salt.

Anyone know where I can purchase some Slurm ? Although I have seen how they make it, I still want some. |

While ignoring this thread, I almost finished rebuilding my bike. Last summer , I obtained some used Dura Ace parts (I could no longer afford new) and I finally got to install them. (required totally new cabling due to different shift/brake levers with the cables running under handlebars instead of "free" in your face.
The frame is now on its 4th season.

 | I will ignore that your pictures show you aren't married.
Many of us used to keep our motorcycles in our living rooms for winter. That is, till our wives gave us an ignore ultimatum: Ignore that this is the place the bike should be. Or ignore your bed and get used to the couch.
An ignore catch-22. |
