Re: What USB connector is this?

said by Subaru:

They I can't remember when maybe 2-3 years ago they all adopted on a standard for the charging ports to cut down on costs..

Cutting down cost (especially the idea of saving the customer some money) had absolutely nothing to do with it. Handset manufacturers loved the idea of customer lock-in with proprietary connectors (and even more loved the idea of overpriced accessories due to the lack of competition).

The common charger for mobile phones is the result of a European mandate. Without that mandate it would have never happened.

What sucks is some devices will tell you "Invalid Charger" or "Unsupported Charger" if you don't use the right one. IIRC, my niece's phone does this when plugged into my BlackBerry 9650 charger, but will work fine when plugged into my Apple AC to USB adapter w/ a data cable.

My Bluetooth charger (Plantronics Discovery 975 and a Backbeat 903) can interchange for either device, but will not charge my BlackBerry... but my BB charger will charge my Plantronics devices. I'd have to look, but I think the Plantronics chargers don't put out the same current as the BB charger.
