Re: [Vista] Vista License question

said by andyross:

The Dell OEM copy may not install in a VM. I once tried to install Win2K in a VM, and it failed because it checks the BIOS for a Dell signature. It's possible the Vista copy may do the same. Even if you run the VM on a Dell (as I did), the VM has it's own virtual BIOS.

I will post this again so all the "experts" can read it

Gotta love intellegent answers based on fact.

I ran the Fusion P2V process, cloned my old DELL PC.

It came up NO PROBLEM in the Fusion VM. All software works correctly including serial interface drivers I have installed for my weather station.

Performed a Windows Update to see if the VM passed and Genuine Advantage tests - no problem.

I am amazed about how little CPU/Memory resources the VM actually takes on the Imac (I7,16Gigs).

I am impressed with how seamless this process is.

Will run this for a week or so to make sure I didnt miss anything then it will be time to blow away the last physical windows box in my home inventory!!!

And once again you are incorrect. The fact that you were able to clone and run your drivers, means squat. As was explained to you, your OEM license only allows you to run the OS on that hardware. Hence the term OEM. Your cloned VM is not the same OEM Dell hardware. Say and do what you will, but you are not legit running your Dell Vista OEM copy as a VM.
