Re: Made a copper coil today... The efficiency is amazing, because a new tank style water heater is still only about 60%. Hell, the modern tankless are only 80-85% efficient. -- ...because I care. |

Here are some Rinnai 90+% tankless heaters as an example: »www.rinnai.us/tankless-water-heater/ultra |

Knocked her out in 2.5hrs today, with a few plumbing changes.. Looks a lot better after paint..
nunya, Rinnai makes a tankless that is approx 96% efficient. The RC98HPi. I install one every 2-3months.. got at least 20 of em out there, running great. This heater is 70-75% efficient, depending on temperature, and the pilot eats up a solid 5-8%. Without the pilot, it would be 80-82%. We tried a pilotless design, but had late ignition issues. Late ignition with 350k of gas is a bad bad thing.
Materials were 733$ my cost in coil stock. About 6hrs to make, 2hrs to install, we charged 2349 installed, with a 5yr coil warranty.

tp0dyabbazooiePremium join:2001-02-13 Carnegie, PA kudos:4 | To get a heater that would produce the same volume of hot water (6 gpm at 90° rise), you would need two Rinnai RC80HPi's. My cost on each heater is approx 1000$ plus labor and materials, at least another 1500, if not 2000$. One larger Rinnai, a RC98HPi, could be installed, but that only produces 4gpm, and total installed would be 3000-3200. Each of the above heaters is 96% efficient tho. And those quotes above are relatively low.
Plus, some people really like their old heaters.. Theyre a dying breed... but when you see 15" of flame inside the heater dancing around, its pretty sweet.. (damn, forgot to take a pic with the burner on.. derp.)
