Re: Long range network. OK. Let's talk about your cable modem itself. Can you log into it and see the signal levels and logs? The IP address for the internal diagnostics is usually 192.168.100.1. The downstream power level and snr as well as the US power level are the signals to look for and in your log you'd be looking primarily for T3 time outs. |
 | The only error I see is map request retry timeout. Also some notices about being ready to pass packets and the occasional DHCP failed requested info not supported.
Signal to noise ratio is 38.7db power level is 36.5dbmv |

Also - when you experience loss of internet connectivity is it when the power has gone out/fluctuated or are there also other times when you have internet outages but the power has been consistent? |
 | Downstream is -4.7 dBmV
The issue now has nothing to do with power outages. We have not had one for several days if not longer. It has gone off and on several times today while on the forums in the past 30 minutes. The thing that makes me think it is the transmitter is that when it flicks off it is not just internet I lose. I can not remotely access any of the transmitters or other routers. |

 | They started like 2 or 3 days ago. Now I just went on the roof again and the shocks have gone away. I am totally baffled lol. The system worked quite well for over a year. I feel Alcon is a bit over priced for what you get though. |
 | Would other companies less expensive outdoor repeater/access points play nice with the Alcon? I do not see what justifies the expense of the Alcons. |

 | With the fact that my transmitter loses contact with the other ones and the middle repeater was shocking me I have to think it is that middle repeater. And I just had another brief outage. Kind of a pain when you are doing research or playing games or trying to chat with friends who live half the country away. |

You'd just have to make sure you bought some other equipment that was meant for outdoor use and have similar transmitting power (what you have is way more powerful than the average consumer WAP). Other comparable equipment is probably pretty expensive as well. |
