Re: [Poll]Initial reaction to new iPad said by MIABye:Retina display! I'm a very satisfied user of 1 who isn't bothered terribly by the current display. I think books, images and videos look gorgeous. I'll admit that if I saw a side by side comparison of the old and new, I'd probably notice the difference and be less satisfied. But if I don't do the comparison, I'll stay satisfied. I've loved 1 for two years now, it suits my needs, albeit a bit slow loading web pages, but I can live with it.
Off topic, I love hearing people gripe about how slow their machine is. I remember, in college going to the computer lab (not all colleges had a computer, mine did) which was in a building across campus. I'd hand in a box of punch cards to the administrator who would put them into the card reader. I'd come back about an our later, depending on how busy they were and get a printout of my program. If one character on one card was incorrect, the program wouldn't run so I'd have to find the errant card and repeat the process. Retina display? Back then it was green and white alternating lines on a paper with nine point dot matrix printing. Slow? Today's users have no idea what slow is. But my college had a computer! |

The camera doesn't do it for me, and to be honest with you the retina display isn't a deal breaker either.....I have a first gen iPad, and think the display is just fine. My reason to upgrade will be a performance bump! I need it to be faster in the web browser and stop the maddening delay I have typing an email, or filling a field in a web page.....hoping the better processor, and the gig of ram make the difference. |

 | reply to haroldo I've got a MBA and a iPad 1...
I can't justify a new iPad as all I really use my iPad for now is a remote for my XBMC media center and occasionally a game or two. |

| reply to haroldo As far as reactions at first I was a bit surprised by the lack of a 'new name', but after thinking about it, it really makes sense.
You don't see iMac 2, iMac 3, iMac HD, or MacBook Pro 1, 2, 3 etc. They refresh and update but they're still iMacs after what, 12 years now. They're still MacBook Pros, still MacBook Airs, still Mac mini's, still Mac Pros, etc. And when a new MacBook Pro refresh is out, it's The New MacBook Pro for quite awhile. The naming convention of simply calling it the iPad fits and brings it in line with all the other Apple devices and PCs with the exception of the iPhone. |

Hoping New iPad will be zippier. I believe that you have been using the iPad and not the iPad 2 (same as me). Much of that issue was fixed with the iPad 2. I will probably place an order in the next few days. LTE (4g) and the A5x processor are my main reasons. The display will be nice but that is not driving the upgrade. Looks like I can keep my grandfathered unlimited (to a certain degree) AT&T plan also! |
