After I figured out how to disable some items I was able to roll a whole slew of macs onto our network. It's quite hilarious a guy who has nothing to do with help desk or anything to do with who brings computers onto the network is the only one in the building who can bind new Macs to the network.
It's really simple-
1) Follow this article- »support.apple.com/kb/HT3789 2)Do the rest of the steps here - »www.macwindows.com/TIP-Lion-dot-···ast.html 3) Finish up with this step »discussions.apple.com/thread/320···tstart=0
Other minor things you can do is make sure your domain is in the network preferences, and change the login options to name and password and not icons or usernames.
After all of that as long as you do the configuration properly in the open directory utility you should be able to bind it pretty easily. You will know the setup is done properly when you pull up the "directory editor" and it will pull your whole LDAP. From there just log out and then log back in with your AD credentials.
Or to avoid all of that you can purchase ADmitMac which not only gets you on any domain but fixes the SMB issues that 10.7 caused. »www.thursby.com/products/admitmac.html |

 | said by bobrk:Huh, works fine for me. Some networks it works fine, the main problem stems from IPV6. If you leave it in place you can have issues with ejecting shares. Since most networks aren't using IPV6 you should turn it off like I mention in one of the steps above.
I wouldn't be as dramatic as Mike and say there are a "ton" of issues I only ran into the few and those were resolved in a heart beat once I killed with the disabling of IPV6. I am also using mostly NetApp boxes for shares on our enterprise network. |
