Re: 40W Halogen, 50W Xenon or 60W Incandescent? Thanks. We're replacing a couple of pendant lights that hang over the bar area and salad sink in the kitchen. The bar length is about 8'. Presently the two pendant lights each use a 60W (Max) incandescent bulb.
The lights I'm looking to get come in one of the above three configurations. The Xenon socket is an E12 and the Halogen socket is G9. Bulb cost is not really a consideration.
Sounds like Xenon is not the way to go if brightness is a consideration. -- Those who cant, sing the blues. All hail our tax and sing chief! |

| Ah.
The Xeon E12 is basically a Xeon bulb in a candelabra base. There are only a handful of manufactures, and from what I can find they are about 560 Lumens at a cost of $11 a bulb. The G9 is more common, and most bulbs are about 500 lumens or so (Osram or Eiko are best). The exception are the one's made by Westinghouse at 800 lumens (which are also the cheapest at $3.50/bulb).
Xeons have better color than halogen, but mostly irrelevant in your case. |

Very helpful. Thanks! -- Those who cant, sing the blues. All hail our tax and sing chief! |

A 23w CFL for example is under the 60w max but it's a 100w equivalent and runs about 1,500 lumens. -- "Every once in a while, declare peace....it confuses the hell out of your enemies." |

| We ended up going with a smaller sized shade, so only the halogen option is available.

1 edit | I had no clue that they had LEDs that fit that kind of a base. Thanks for the info. That's awesome!
Edit: Presently available LEDs are WAY too dim for our use. The highest one I could find put out the same light as a 20W Halogen. That won't work.
