Re: New Service To Give iPad Owners 1GB/sec Net Speeds ok, this is amazing. I do my clinical paperwork on an PC because of an ONLY IE software. Couple of points/corrections... IE is only available with the paid subscription. When I tried earlier I launched IE and got their home page and all served up. But general Web browsing is not available on the free account. The article above does mention that. I missed it.
Here at home the rest of the available apps run extremely smoothly. I've managed to upload a file via my home desktop and then use it on the iPad. The subscription plans for OnLive let you use Dropbox. -- My Gallery Formerly Nezmo |

Turning your iPad into a thin-client. I know there's a Citrix client for the iPad but there's no way this place will ever do that.
Have you experienced it? It seems like an "amazing" solution since everybody is pushing everything into blades and terminal server environments. Who cares what hardware client is accessing it? -- flickr | Of faith, power and glory |

 | reply to Xstar_Lumini I have the same question as Hyperjoe, is this only for those people that have an internet connection already or does this gets internet access to people with no internet for $5 a month?
Second question, when will this be available in Canada if ever? |

There was a Facebook game that my wife wanted to play that used Flash (Gardens of Time, I think) where she wanted to just tap the objects, and it worked well. Makes me wonder if this solution would would work as well with lower latency. --

I tried to get the company i work for to use Citrix Receiver and they baulked even though they have the infrastructure already in place. |

Way to many companies are not policing all of these cloud services and it would be bad if you got made an example of by getting fired for using one of them. |

| reply to hyperjoe said by hyperjoe:ok, what is this high speed crap they are talking about? You get an account on a win7 machine running in a data center, with high speed internet available to it. Your iPad still runs the same iOS it always ran - it just runs the Onlive "remote terminal" app, pointing at one of the Win7 instances. You could do this yourself, for free, if you have windows 7 running on something at home, using remote desktop to "log in" to your home machine - with any of the remote desktop apps available in the app store. -- My place : »www.schettino.us |

As Mike said this is basically their version of Citrix Receiver for the ipad with out having to pay all the money for the citrix environment. I tried to get the company i work for to use Citrix Receiver and they baulked even though they have the infrastructure already in place. As long as you have the infrastucture in place, you could set up a small Citrix XenDesktop 5.5 deployment (and by small, I mean up to 10 users) for free. This will allow you to use Windows and whatever other applications you want to install local to the VM accessible from anywhere, anytime.
I manage a Citrix environment at work, of all components (with the exception of the Netscalers, but I have the VPX at home); XenApp, XenDesktop, Provisioning Services, Edgesight, XenServer, etc...as well as at home (although my Hypervisor at home has been VMWare because I run pfSense on it).
Citrix Receiver is great -- even get an option for a "Pointer" which makes the "small icons" and other such items no longer a problem. Just drag your finger on the screen, use the pointer, double-tap to open a program and you're done. |

Not surprising, really, since the concept of OnLive is so radical and, at least behind the scenes, a little confusing.
To save any further electrons from dying in the service of answering the same questions over and over again, here are Frequently Asked Questions about OnLive Desktop:...
