New Service To Give iPad Owners 1GB/sec Net Speeds

They will also get Windows 7 on their iPad without the hassles of passwords or serial numbers, at least that's what the NY Times in reporting:

The power of citrix.

Turning your iPad into a thin-client.

I have the app and have been granted access (they were restricted early on - may be more open now). I have yet to try it but plan to. Seems interesting.

Is this another one of those VNC type of things?

Where you control a PC remotely on your Ipad?

I trird a few of them, shortly after getting my 1st gen Ipad. The experience wasn't worth it at all. It was slow.

Re: New Service To Give iPad Owners 1GB/sec Net Speeds

Sounds interesting but I have to see it first hand to believe it.

Also, for what it’s worth, hawking “Windows” to Apple users is something of a mixed bag. Those on iOS devices may not necessarily be hard core Apple users but there are likely a fair number that run screaming from MS Windows when it comes to a computer OS. Not me personally because I like Windows and OS X (gasp did he just say that,…? Why, yes. Yes I did ) but I can see the irony here.

OS X would probably be a little more palatable here for some in this respect but I’m sure Apple would have none of it without catapulting a couple of dozen lawyers in their(Onlive) general direction. Not sure how they are getting away with this with Microsoft either,….

As I said in the now locked thread:
OnLive is not exactly the same as VNC. And the basic version is free (includes access to Office apps, but not IE or Acrobat).

In general, OnLive has better performance (clicking/dragging/etc) than VNC across the internet but sacrifices some quality for that performance.

Cute idea... the OnLive game platform uses the same technology, it worked reasonably well... But you do need a reasonable data connection for it to be performant.

Not sure this is breakthrough territory, but for those that need such a thing it could be useful.

You're not. You're running an app that is streaming video of Windows running remotely. And to address your comment about viruses and trojans from the other thread, a non issue for your iPad.

Just tried it sitting here in Starbucks (not the best Wi-Fi). Response time is rather good. Very clear and things like dragging windows are almost instantly rendered. I'm impressed.

I told you guys it was the best thing since slice bread, but will my pics and cookies be stored in that remote data center for later snooping by PI's, employers and cops?

It's free. $5 adds additional software, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean. You install the iOS app, apply for an account and then are able to run the app which runs Win7 remotely with basic MS Office apps, IE, etc. You do not need your own Windows license.
