Re: [Other] going to voip for home phone

Since the OP appears to be going from plug-n-play to BYOD, with no disrespect, I would not recommend Anveo.

The Anveo website just gives me a headache. Since I signed up with them, I noted that:

1) The website will allow you to setup 911 and will charge the 80 cent 911 fee even if there are no funds in the account. This resulted in a negative balance.

2) Adding additional caller-id numbers results in a per minute usage charge against the account to verify the number. I didn't mind the charge but would have like to have been notified prior to setting up the numbers. I didn't see or couldn't find where it's stated on the website.

The visual Call Flow feature is really cool though. I like it.

Disclaimer: I test mainframe database software for a living. It may just be the "QA" coming out in me when dealing with the Anveo website.

This was taken care of a few days ago. Users no longer can activate E911 with less than $0.8 account balance.
BTW I am not sure if you noticed but unlike other BYOD providers Anveo does NOT charge a setup fee for E911. I've heard that some providers charge a whooping $5 setup fee + monthly fees for E911...

Hmm, outgoing calls from a user's account are always charged.

Yeah, I hope it is "QA" part of you because if you compare rates, features and flexibility offered by Anveo vs others... Does it mean we now have your recommendation

I will read up on Anveo more however I must ask why would you need to configure additional caller id numbers. Also I did to check to see where Anveo's servers are located at in conjunction to where I'm located and as far as rates I will check them out so fair the best rates I've seen are voip.ms.

One may "hear" lots of things, but that's just FUD and innuendo unless you cite examples.

Actually, yes, there may well be such a provider....

....but NONE of the VoIP providers commonly discussed on this forum, NONE of Anveo's main competitors, charge a $5 setup fee for 911. And that's really the peer group.

Doesn't Future-Nine charge a $5 e911 setup fee?

It is hard to respond when you phrase your message this way. I said SOME providers ...
Future Nine is one example: from »Re: [Voip.ms] 911

DaveSin, it's so hard to tell WHAT FutureNine charges because it's not listed on their publicly viewable webpages. It's only shown to logged-in customers, as far as I can tell. But apparently you are correct, so thanks for that information.

In any event, while FutureNine [is] commonly discussed on this forum, I don't view it as a peer competitor to Anveo in terms of the specific market being aimed at.

By far the most common setup fee for 911 is $1.50

If Anveo is able to provide setup for free, more power to them.

AFAIK, all 911 services are arranged through companies like Intrado that specialize in that area, to ensure quality of database information, and reliability of PSAP access for 911 calls.

Please note that Anveo's international rates to cell phone numbers often are considerably lower than what Voip.ms charge.

Guys I hooked up the OBi110 last night I'm amazed at how good the voice quality is through Google voice my next steps are to pick an e911 provider. So with that said do you guys have any config examples for setting up the Obi with e911 also I wonder if the Obi can be configured to use Skype or if there is a product out there that can do Skype and Google Voice?

Head over to this site for all the help you might need for your OBi110.

I personally use Anveo for e911; $0.80 per month, no setup fee and no need for a paid DID.

I second the e911 from Anveo. It is probably the cheapest you can find anywhere for a standalone e911 service.

Where I think CallCentric excels (and why I ported both my home and business numbers there) is:

*reliability and good customer service
*excellent quality
*customer-friendly billing procedures including security measures relating to the optional auto-recharges
*a very easy-to-use website/dashboard
*the ability to create phonebook listings, speeddials, or call treatments, directly from the list of received calls
*good voicemail (recently upspiffed) that provides notification by email or SMS or both
*a good fax server that I use in my office everyday
*great support for SIP URI, Sipbroker, and iNum
*Simulring that has the option of 1+ pickup, this feature can fix the issue of calls getting dumped into your cellphone voicemail
*iPhone app (and soon Android too)
*Calling card capability
*very good security procedures including being able to choose which individual countries you can call
*inbound CNAM at no extra charge

One big reason I like CallCentric is that my family is using it and it's free and convenient to call back and forth using the CallCentric 1777xxxxxxx numbers. I can even call my daughter's phone (she uses the free IP Freedom plan -- 2nd phone in our household) from my mobile phone using SIP Broker.

Guys right now I have everything upand running using Anveo as my E911 provider, however I'm curious in learning more about the configuration of voip. So with that said do can you guys recommend any good starter books, cbts, or websites that you know of? Also I have an extra set of Vtech DECT 6.0 phones laying around I think I'm going to purchase the unit in the below link and try to configure a second home ip phone using Callcentric, voip.ms or Anveo.

If you guys know of any better telephone adpaters please let me know this one just comes up in a lot of places also I've heard of these devices being locked and unlocked whats the difference

Why would you buy a PAP2T-NA over another OBi110/OBi100 is beyond my understanding. Is it that you need two separate Phone ports? The Obi ATA in my IMHO is the best ATA on the market. They will be releasing the OBi202 which has two phone ports soon if that is your motivation.

»voxilla.com/2011/12/18/a-peak-at···res-2959

You might look at a IP Phone instead of another ATA. Something like the Panasonic KX-TGP551T04, which can accommodate up to 8-providers. A few weeks back it available for $99, but is back up to $299, except at Amazon, where the price seems to vary daily.

The PAP2T is certainly the most popular ATA on the market, because historically it's been the most configurable, and the least expensive. The OBi devices are quickly changing this however.

The only reasons I can think of not to use an OBi device is if you require T.38 support or you require an ATA with two FXS ports. However, as DaveSin already said, the OBi202 is expected to remedy this.

I could buy another Obi I looked at price you can grab the PAP2T-NA off of ebay for around 33.00. However, I will consider just ordering another Obi off of Amazon.

If you get a PAP2T, don't get it from eBay!

Sadly, eBay is rife with counterfeit Linksys ATAs. See »[Equipment] Counterfeit Linksys PAP2 for more information.

I was actually looking at this one I never buy anything from Asia only US sellers. However, now you got me thinking that the US sellers could also be pushing bad gear.
