Ah yesssss, that brings back some not so distant memories, from about 3 years back.

I do not recall the exact rates, but I left BELL Internet over their accounting dept prorating 'out' an old rate for the first part of an established billing period, and then, on the same bill, using a different (too long) period for prorating 'in' the new higher rate.

I think that this happened when I had notified them that I wanted to go off contract and pay the higher open rate (approaching the proper end of a contract), and when you tell them THAT, a flag likely is raised on you account at their end, to tell them to rip you off any way they can, as you are likely to be leaving anyway.

I argued up and down that the 2 prorate periods should add up to the number of days in that billing period (and not more), and they just didn't get it (and some of these folks were allegedly accounting reps), so I told them to shut down my account and stopped paying them.

It was only a difference of 2 or 3 dollars which became the 'last straw' that day and cost Bell my account, though Bell had made errors for about 6 consecutive previous months on that account, ever since I took away my land line and had them install me a dry loop the previous summer (moving that Internet account over to the DL), which prob'ly bothered them too, as THAT was when they started billing me a monthly fee for the dry loop after some of them saying that they would not, AND for a modem which they never sent and for which I never asked (or both, some months).

And oh yes, those were Bell BUSINESS services, so I was originally paying extra for them as it was, at the time.

So, that day I finally gave up on them and told them so.

Hopefully the problems which you folks are currently facing are somewhat simpler to solve. :)

:huh: To me, that really doesn't make sense, IF you simply stayed on the same plan (25/7/300?).

If you stayed on the same plan, you should have been billed the new lower price for your Feb. bill (assuming it was Feb. 2 or later ($52.99 +8).

You should ALSO have received a pro-rated CREDIT for "Feb. 2 to your billing date", that would reflect the lowered price.

And if this all happened, this would mean your next bill will actually go UP, because you won't have the CREDIT next time.

I mean, where prices went up, they pro-rate the increase for the Feb. 2 to Billing Date period. When prices go down, they should pro-rate the decrease for the same period also.

On the invoice, break it down, leaving the total price at the same.

It shows transparency, and doesn't lie when your pushing the "NO HIDDEN FEES" line.

I think people care more about the total cost, and not what pays for what within that cost.

TAX and overages should be the only thing not included in the advertised price.

For packages where Modems are supplied and not optional, then just add a note saying *manditory modem rental included

I do hope TSI gets their problems straightened out. Their prices are not bad; my 5M DSL service has always been great (with the odd email problem!).

But, they are no longer the cheapest provider, nor are they the only other game in town. And, this is not the old "After-school MLPPP club" anymore (that's how I thought of the group in the forums, when I first found DSL reports). You now have a wide variety of user types, including many who are NOT internet experts in any sense of the phrase.

Oh, that last point makes me mention that the Off-Peak Free Hours have ABSOLUTELY NO VALUE to a lot of internet users. Not everyone is enamoured with this 'feature'. I have already mentioned this same fact to another IISP operator, in hopes they may take that into account in their new user plans. Early March will tell!

I sincerely hope things improve, so we can all enjoy these forums more, and get back to helping each other learn, and solve problems. And maybe just 'hang out', to kill some time, too! :)

I don't expect Teksavvy to lose money and I value the good service I have had for the past 6 years. Teksavvy set the bar quite high in it's past performance and it is sad to read about this mess. I blame the big guys with the CRTC in their pockets as the real problem.

OK, he may well be swamped, but there could be other reasons.

Anyway, by now, you can be absolutely certain that the 'bean-counters' at TSI have done their bit and told Marc how many folks are in each group :

(1) Folks who got 25/7 DSL service BEFORE 2012,

(2) Those who ordered/got it during Jan 2012 and Feb 1,

(3) Everyone else who ordered it Feb 2 or later.

And they know how much it might cost them to not charge some of them the $8 per month, especially as they had just announced a major reduction in the general rate for that tier of service (and which some folks have quickly forgotten).

I would guess that they have been advised to sit on this a bit longer to see whether the whining gets louder or quieter, before saying much more, and the same advice likely goes for the other questions which arose when they published their now-withdrawn Pricing FAQ v1.0.

But JASMO has raised a perfectly reasonable question in his last post - one to which Marc has so far not delivered a clear direct public answer.

The REAL issue here is that I don't understand how we're being forced to use specific CPE. This isn't the 1950s; we pay for a service, and that's it--what's connected on our side of the demarc is our choice and none of Bell's business. If I want to hook up a Cisco WIC, that should be my prerogative.

If there's an issue with the link and Bell is able to demonstrate that it works correctly with their hardware, and refuses to support other gear, fine--I would accept that (it's stupid, but I would accept it). But putting a mandatory charge on everyone's bill regardless of whether we use their equipment or not? Someone needs to give them a good smack upside the head.

Talk about a lame argument - I didn't sign up to pay $67.99. If the price were still at $67.99, I wouldn't be using the service. I signed up to pay $52.99, what they advertised the price to be. Actually, we have no enforced UBB rates at all in the West :) The 'caps' are soft and completely unenforced by both Telus and Shaw. I feel for you guys out East; it seems brutal.

Fine, it's still "cheaper", but why wasn't this announced in the email that was sent about the price changes? Why were so many people told that the modem rental would only be applied to new signups? I am curious about the reasoning behind the price discrepancy too... with only $1/month difference between 10/1 and 16/1, it makes practically no sense to even bother offering 10/1 in the first place.

Except that 'in the first place' there originally WAS more price spread between tiers.

It was somewhere around UBB or AVP time that Bell began to close the gap, especially when the usage component was extracted from the NGN tariff prices (and later did this to GAS DSL).

And speaking of GAS, hey, some gas stations offer 3 or 4 (Sunoco) grades of gas sometimes at not much diff in price.

That's some pretty evil shit, tell you what. How they are allowed to charge for something they don't actually provide is beyond me. It just plain violates the very concepts that contract and consumer protection laws were founded on.

But the fact that the mode is mandated kept me from going 25/7. Bad enough they get my wholesale dollars, I don't want their fscking equipment inside my house.

OK, the more recent ones which YOU examined said they are the same, and they may or may not have been earlier.

But what about Bell's retail rates between the 2 provinces ?

Just trying to get a sense of where TSI got their idea for the spread, and why they have made absolutely no public comment to literally dozens of times being asked the same questions in here over the weeks ?

They appear to be avoiding certain questions as long as possible, and THAT is one of them.

This question does not affect me, but all the same I am curious.

The tariff pages I see say $24.84 for both 10/1 and 12/1, there is no mysterious surcharge for QC. The price scales are identical for both provinces, the only difference is the 10 vs 12 speed.

Yeah, and some other ISPs are charging less for the 10 meg because they expect the capacity charges to be less...

I'm pretty sure I read those too when they first were released around AVP proposal time, IIRC.

OK, then does Bell charge QC FIBe 10 retail customers more per month than ON FIBe 12 retail ones ?

Are Bell's retail caps and UBB charges the same or different in those same cases ?

B#e77 holds the contract liscense for the firmware do they not, IMHO they're renting the firmware. Same with robers, I t'poses. Imagine the uproar if Robers started a fee just for that alone; especially since the Savvy among us own our own modem outright.
