I also don't know about hacked support for GMA chipsets. It might take drivers or something built from scratch to get it all working the smoothest. Like I say, I doubt Apple cares. They just dont want to "support" such installs.

Agreed.. it's probably in the name of User Experience. However, I wonder if some of the system hacking utils that hack plists will have ways to turn some of the eye candy off for those GMA950/X3100 folks using a repurposed driver in ML.

Proof that the Hackintosh culture has some pretty nice benefits on the Mac side of the house, IMHO. The same thing with Lion on the Core Duo systems that folks upgraded to Core 2 Duo (the Mini 1.6Ghz comes to mind.)

Yeah, I'm mad at Apple for producing such a heaping pile of shit of a server. Especially when I make money selling these solutions. Lion server is just terrible and I'm actually considering recommending a NAS device or a Windows server for clients. Even if they are a Mac only shop.

Except Snow Leopard was all about pushing the pause button on new features to refine what they already had. Nothing I've read about Mountain Lion is about refining Lion. They're just piling on more features like previous releases.

Perhaps because it appears that Apple is headed for lock-down, maybe not in 10.9, but maybe 11.0. For example, would apps like Handbrake still be available? What about Transmission? I have a friend that created an app (WINE) for installing *some* windows programs, it was refused by the app store because it uses Windows files...

Of course, nothing might change, just permissions. Which, if that is the case, is great.

Server Admin and Workgroup Manager are still available for Lion. They're just no longer included with the default install. They can be downloaded and used along side the new Server app.

For my server, if/when snow leopard can no longer run software I need, I will be going Linux.

For the desktop, I really don't know. But staying at snow leopard means that I will likely no longer be getting any updates for the basic apple software like itunes etc.

I still need rosetta BTW.

AAPL is doing really well. But I don't like the direction that Apple is taking the desktops so I won't be spending much money with Apple anymore. Big question i whether people like me are to be a tiny group and AAPL will cotinue to do well, or whether there will be a growing trend of people who stay away from Apple because of all the control and proprietary stuff they do.

It is about time that Adobe ported its software like photoshop and illustrator to Linux.
