Re: Question about power ports, inverters, and 120 VAC devices..

I don't see any cars with a 120 VAC sockets pre-installed. Is this due to the danger of AC?

A lot of new cars come with an AC outlet, particularly vans and stuff... But to name one I can think of the Dodge Caliber. Now they are usually only like 500 watts or less, they are designed for laptop and AC phone chargers and things like that, you wont be running a coffee pot from them or anything.

A laptop charger would be fine as it may only use a few amps @ 12v, but don't plan to regularly run high load equipment (like maxing out a 1000+watt inverter or anything), you would need a high output alternator to keep up with the charging or you will kill your battery.
