[HN7000S] Possible sources of red Xs?

I'm getting red Xs quite a bit in areas such as uplink queuing, web acceleration n, and web acceleration I. It's not hour after hour on any of them, and they happen whether I'm browsing or not. I get peak browser connection limit reached with numbers that range from 0-5.

Web browsing is bad any time except the middle of the night. If I try to download a file, more often than not it will download at a speed somewhere between 0.5 kB/s - 2 kB/s, with frequent drops to 0.

I'm just trying to find out if there's anything I can check out on my end. I have a good signal...82. Every once in a while I get a day where everything works at a speed of about 300 kbps, which I would be absolutely thrilled to get on a regular basis.

I've talked to HN CS many times in the past and I do everything they say, but in the end they always say it's the fault of my computers and that I should have them all serviced, including the one I had literally just bought and hooked up.

Heh.. Thats Hughesnet for ya, Pretty much it's worthless after 5PM till 11:30PM EST. During thoes times.. Just step away and do something else.. As far as Downloading, You should be fine other than thoes times. I have same Red X's.. It's HS Throttling down you're connection. It's not on you're end. I make the most out of my connection.. Sleep druing the day.. On at night when there is no Throttling. Just have to bare with it.. and pray you get "real" highspeed.

Throttling doesn't likely have anything to do with it, especially if you not a gamer or participate in P2P. But customer service was wrong too, those red X categories have little if anything to do with your computer. With anything at all on your end for that matter. They indicate issues at your NOC. About the only thing you can try - and it can't be relied upon to work every time - is a turbo page teardown. As far as the browser connection limit, that's probably no more complicated than a tab or two that you forgot to close.

But "0.5kB/s - 2.0 kB/s" is almost certainly an error in expression. That's the same as saying your speeds are between 4 kbps and 16 kbps, and I sincerely doubt that.

I could be reading my speeds wrong...I'm not good with bits and bytes. The downloads in my image are from different days. They're a little faster than what I quoted, if I'm quoting my speeds right. It's taken about ten minutes for me navigate to respond to this post.

If those are screen captures from the HughesNet test page, you have a case. I'm guessing you didn't bring them to the attention of the tech support folks. Those are significant evidence that something's wrong with your satellite equipment. NOT your computer.

As I said before, all other symptoms are indicative of issues at the NOC. But not those speeds. That's clearly an issue that must be remedied by Hughes.

Are you still under warranty? Do you lease your equipment?

I'm not under warranty and I own the equipment. It's a few years old now. I've brought those speeds to their attention in the past, but since my speeds are okay for at least a few hours per day, so far they have said there is nothing they can do.

I called again and am in the middle of finding a resolution. So far their tests say my equipment seems fine, and this time even the first person I spoke to determined my computer isn't the cause. That gives me hope. It helped that when I called, I literally could not even load the simple google page within 30 seconds of trying.

this came up in discussion around here recently. any chance you are logged into google? does it perhaps say "https" before "://www.google.com"?

if so, log out of google, as the secure connection is causing your slow speed.

that said, based on the rest of your story, you are likely experiencing further issues. just seems worth checking.

Yeah, but have you confirmed that they actually reviewed your online HughesNet speed test results. That alone justifies them sending someone out for a looksee.

The HughesNet speed tests by the way, are not HTTPS. So don't let them use that argument against you

My google isn't using a secure connection.

They haven't actually called me back yet [and it's been several days] but today my transponder changed and for the first time ever, I tested at 1.2 Mbps down. I'm thrilled to be able to open websites after mid-morning. I honestly don't care about having the advertised speeds, I know satellite has limitations...I just want it functional. Grohgreg's responses gave me the confidence to call them again...they had pretty much beaten me down into being convinced they could do nothing for me. Thank you!
