[HSI] Slow Speeds + Frequent Disconnects

I have been using charters HSI for a few years now in the Hammond, LA area and it has worked pretty well for the most part. Lately (since I have come home after Christmas) there have been some nights where the connection is completely unstable for hours. The thing is, it also happens to a friend who lives in the same apartment complex, but a different unit.

We both have the 30Mbps connection, but our speed is nowhere near what it should be. I ran the uploaded test a couple times on different servers each time and it was always slow like that, though many of them were only 5Mbps.

To be perfectly honest, I don't even really care nearly as much about getting my full speed as I do about the disconnects though. I play League of Legends a lot and I skype with my friends while playing, and every few minutes I am unable to talk to anyone on skype or give my character in game commands, but I can hear everyone just fine and see what everyone else does in game just fine. Then after anywhere from 1-30 seconds it will just go back to normal no problems.

It's very frustrating and like I said, it happens to my friend who lives in the same area as me, but none of my other friends who also live in hammond, but not in the same apartments.

I already talked to a charter person online and they are sending a rep on Friday, but I want to be able to provide as much information as possible, and I was hoping you guys might have some insight so I could maybe help narrow it down before s/he gets here.

Thanks

look at signal levels and logs in your router. 192.168.100.1 It would probably be beneficial to get the levels when things are working fine and again when they are not.

Well I got into the modem, here is the info. I couldn't find SNR for upload.

Downstream SNR: 36.8 dB
Downstream Power Level: -2.9 dBmV
Upstream Power Level: 44.7 dBmV

If you need anything else let me know.

Also, today everything is running pretty good today so here is an updated speed test. My upload is still much slower than it should be though.

you won't see snr for upload in the modem. Those levels all look pretty good. If you start having trouble then it'd be interesting to see the same readings during that time.

I had very similar issues and it was due to having a DOCSIS 2.0 modem instead of a DOCSIS 3.0 one. Swapped out modems and all was good.
