 | How to watch online the Superbowl Live feed from Canada Besides a VPN service, any idea how to watch the Superbowl online with the full US feed? |
|
 | Looks like CTV is up to there old tricks again. last year Shaw had it unlocked in hd for everyone to enjoy. I don't know why shaw doesn't offer it as a pay Per view item so if people want to watch it from the states feed, they can.
are all the timezone channels locked too, I don't have them. ? |

are all the timezone channels locked too, I don't have them. ? It's all copyright and licensing. CTV buys the rights to broadcast in Canada. Anywhere CTV broadcasts over the air, shaw has to simsub the Canadian feed over top. I think for 4 or 5 years on the HD stations I was getting the US feed, but CTV made a big surge in offering CTV in HD over the air. So now its being simsubbed in most areas. Which sucks because I live in Victoria, and we don't have a CTV transmittor here. Vancouver is pretty far away... you could probably get ctv with a big outdoor antenna, but otherwise not. Why that counts for simsubbing i don't know.
Shaw wouldn't be able to offer it as ppv since CTV owns the broadcast rights in Canada.
I tried to use a VPN to watch the nbc feed which was pretty good quality, but they don't air the commercials on the nbc website feed.. ugh. |

| said by OTA :The game looked really good in 1080p Over-The-Air The OTA signals from seattle are really weak over here. I tried to find a decent antenna at the last second, but there was nothing good. I suppose if I see a good deal over the next year I'll buy one and try it out. Still Seattle is pretty far away (just like vancouver), so the quality of OTA is pretty minimal here. |

 | reply to Bandito Even though CTV owns the broadcast rights, that would give CTV the ability, to offer it as a PPV, collect money charging for the unmodified US feed, they would still make they money they would lose on advertising, so not Shaw's decision, but CTV's decision.
Those 4 or 5 years, Shaw didn't have the hardware to dub over the HD channels, is what an engineer told me anyways. -- Yes, I am not employed and looking for IT work. Have passport, will travel. |

The best way is via Ku band or C band FTA with on any of the NBC fronthaul feeds. Quality is even better than OTA as less compression is used and anyone across Canada can receive even if unable to receive the US affiliates across the border. |

Those 4 or 5 years, Shaw didn't have the hardware to dub over the HD channels, is what an engineer told me anyways. Thats not true at all. Shaw was doing it on other programs all the time. They weren't doing it before because they didn't have to. Shaw only has to "simsub" if the channel is being broadcast over the air in that geographical region. CTV wasn't broadcasting over the air in HD for the past # of years. Over the last two years they have expanded OTA HD to most major cities in Canada. I had the US version of the superbowl in Edmonton for about 4 years. Even though I moved, I found out they too were simsubbed this year (which coincided with CTV HD going over the air there).
It has nothing to do with the equipment. Cableco's aren't required to simsub if the channel isn't over the air in that city. |
