 | BTJunkie next in line? So looks like BT removed the latest torrents link. Is this a sign of things to come? Do you think the heat is being turned up on them?
Makes you wonder.
Sad if they disappear. |

 | It was just to coincidental that they killed that link after MU shutdown and all the other shit thats goin on.

I had a feeling Considering Megaupload was mostly brought down due to a small percentage of their operation being in the US, it would be a good move for btJunkie to "get their house in order" before rebooting under a different name. -- I'm watching District 9 again, and I've come to realize something: Wikus's got it all wrong. | reply to Riplin It is in UK, a country that plays lap dog to the US, so what do you expect?
MU is a Hong Kong based business and it got shut down. Now that is enough to scare other big Hong Kong based sites (e.g. fserve), to go down or neuter their own services as well. |

 | reply to Riplin Part of me is pissed off, because I genuinely don't feel that the theoretical damage to music and movie companies should result in the real destruction of real companies and technologies that have significant legitimate uses.
But part of me really doesn't care, because no amount of legislation or law enforcement is going to make me pay for movies, music, or television in the traditional model. There are far too many ways I can spend my time and money that don't involve feeding the extortion racket that is the entertainment industry. |

milnoc join:2001-03-05 H3B kudos:1 | reply to Riplin All this will do is further push the Internet underground, with the possible emergence of decentralized DNS servers and routing tables, operating on a P2P based platform with full encryption, making it even more difficult for any government organization to track down a single site's Internet activities.
That includes sites participating in truly illegal and immoral activities such as for example terrorism and child porn.
That's what SOPA, ACTA and all of these other bogus Internet protection scams will end up doing: protect real criminal activities. -- Watch my future television channel's public test broadcast! »thecanadianpublic.com/live |

Not only did they invest a years worth of investigative manpower, but also supplied 100 officers from their various copyright enforcement divisions to carry out raids on the company. You missed the part about being pressured by the media companies to pay closer attention to the other cyberlocker companies... in other word, if the MAFIAA and the USA had not twisted their arm they would have probably left them alone.
You must also have missed the part where many other country are being blackmailed by the USA to enact stronger law just for the MAFIAA...
Sorry but i will not cry a river for the MAFIAA... |

CoreM join:2005-06-29 France | reply to Riplin In the end though, as mildly annoying as it might be for BTJunkie to be gone (sad to see such a great site disappear like that!) as others have said this will just lead to decentralization of protocols.
TPB is already switching to magnet links and eventually torrents will be served up and searched via exclusively P2P protocols which won't even require central servers. Once it gets to that point, short of declaring total war on the internet, every one of its users and its protocols, there won't be much that anybody can do about it anymore... Then again there are plenty of governments that fall well below those standards of decency so, you never know! |

 | reply to XoX The part about 100 local custom officer showing up at an office where 20-30 would already be overkill. They also spend 1 year of their resources on the case. With or without the use of US servers, it would seem that the Hong Kong government could be forced to deal with the issue. This is the point I am pointing out that you are missing.
I don't even know if the 100 officers would fit inside MU's location. LOL. This show of excessive force was enough deterrent for any other similar businesses in the same jurisdiction to no longer feel safe. Up to this point, it was a safety factor for them. |

I know that but why suddenly going after them... Who do you think asked them for help in shutting down MU?
Like in the Pirate Bay case, if the information is true, the US pressured for prosecution |
