Re: Apple Secrecy said by Wily_One:said by JohnInSJ:Perhaps you've never been involved in anything that required secrecy? True. I don't work for a consumer electronics company that thinks the fact the next version of its product going from black to white is an earth-shattering secret. I know a guy that worked at Sony - I'll ask him about it. It's a good thing you're so objective about it. -- You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you. |

I can see the defendant's attorney asking Apple "how much were sales on the product that my client accidentally mentioned something about?" and Apple responds "many billions of dollars". I'd hope a jury would agree that Apple really didn't "suffer" !! |

| reply to Wily_One Kind of wondering if any of you have worked in the defense industry.
Doesn't sound like they're doing anything different to protect the flow of information. When I worked for one of the largest defense companies in the land, I used to have very high security clearances and was expected to know how to protect it via whatever protocol was required. It was annoying but there are very good reasons for it. Several areas I worked had a safe lock with a combination on the door for times when the area was unattended. I kept information on secure computers and in a safe next to my desk. Of course, I didn't talk to anyone about the secrets I knew.
I have a friend who works over at Apple, and when she got me an employee discount on my new mini, I was half expecting to get a tour of her area when I came to pick up the equipment at 1 Infinite Loop. She headed me off immediately and apologetically by saying she couldn't give me a tour because she worked in a closed area. |

I would certainly hope they have that level of secrecy and more in the defense industry. I don't see what relevance that has to this discussion about Apple. |

Re: Apple Secrecy The "level of secrecy needed by Apple" is debatable.
The article is about the level of secrecy employed by Apple, which strikes some as excessive, and hence interesting. |

| said by Wily_One:The "level of secrecy needed by Apple" is debatable. Oh, I don't know about that. Apple has proven that the level of secrecy they use results in a very profitable company. Being a corporation, beholden to shareholders, I would say that is a need.
The article is about the level of secrecy employed by Apple, which strikes some as excessive, and hence interesting. Indeed, it is interesting, especially if you never worked in the defense industry and are not aware of the techniques used. |
