Re: Nexicom Usenet Throttling Hi kovy - sorry, i don't use newshosting, but i'm not seeing anything outstanding getting to them.
Looks like we pick them up through Highwinds in Chicago, and then Highwinds takes the traffic down to Washington.
I'm pinging news.newshosting.net pretty consistently from home about 53-56ms. -- Nexicom - »www.nexicom.net |

I'm pinging news.newshosting.net pretty consistently from home about 53-56ms. I'd love to know how you are doing that, I've tried it on my network at home (Distributel) and VPN'ed into the office and tried it (via Beanfield) and in both cases I don't block outbound ICMP packets, and in both cases there is no response from news.newshosting.net.
If I test another provider say news.astraweb.com, it comes through fine. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |

If I test another provider say news.astraweb.com, it comes through fine. It might have to do with where your DNS is resolving to. When I lookup news.newshosting.com i get news.iad.newshosting.com:
bruce@xxx:~$ ping news.newshosting.com PING news.iad.newshosting.com (209.197.12.12) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from news.iad.newshosting.com (209.197.12.12): icmp_req=1 ttl=60 time=40.9 ms 64 bytes from news.iad.newshosting.com (209.197.12.12): icmp_req=2 ttl=60 time=40.5 ms 64 bytes from news.iad.newshosting.com (209.197.12.12): icmp_req=3 ttl=60 time=40.9 ms 64 bytes from news.iad.newshosting.com (209.197.12.12): icmp_req=4 ttl=60 time=40.7 ms 64 bytes from news.iad.newshosting.com (209.197.12.12): icmp_req=5 ttl=60 time=40.8 ms 64 bytes from news.iad.newshosting.com (209.197.12.12): icmp_req=6 ttl=60 time=40.7 ms ^C --- news.iad.newshosting.com ping statistics --- 6 packets transmitted, 6 received, 0% packet loss, time 5006ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 40.593/40.801/40.928/0.234 ms

Which is interesting because I can telnet into that on port 119. |
