Re: Embarking on canadian internet pricing models research

I just came back from a meeting with my professor and the emphasis is solely on establishing a new model which doesn't have to be complex. Game theory knowledge is absolutely needed here which I have started reading about. In accordance, both of us have decided to focus on government policies that create incentives for changing the models and encouraging reasonable pricing schemes and just as you talked about the problem is oligopolistic or monopolistic models in telecommunications market do not work as in other industries.

Here are some of the questions that we came up with to answer (very basic but they are the first baby steps towards reaching the final answer. The paper will focus on what can be done, not what will be done or what will change. It is theoretical but is a good way to highlight the mess that canadian internet is in.

Questions/ideas:

list of ways in which the market in which rogers/bell operates in which other markets don't.

are these differences leading to different outcomes. how can we nudge the private sector using policies to influence such markets.

why arent there 1000 companies doing this?

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who is contributing to this topic. Even my professor admitted that this will be a challenge but a fun one lol

to get started, you should look to interview cathrine middleton. she is at some toronto university.

Michael Geist at U ottawa would also be a good person to interview.

And then you might wish to Interview Konrad von Finckenstein, the current chair of the CRTC who will retire in a week or two.
