Re: Embarking on canadian internet pricing models research

We all know how Bell uses hash marks to hide the information provided to the CRTC "in confidence".

I wonder if one requested a FOI request on 2011-77 would you get the "unhashed" version of the information?

It seems that this was asked here before, and I do not recall the exact justification for the answer, but basically it was "NO".

Maybe a court action would, but WHO is willing to take it THAT far ?!

This is something CNOC should embark upon, no more of this ### bullshit, nobody knows if they are making it up, or what the hell is going on. The CRTC is making decisions that effect these IISP's who are basically in the dark, I mean 22k/100mb(or whatever the outrageous number was) of service?

How can you challenge things that are not in the public realm? I can appreciate that the incumbents want to protect their costing from the competition, but for the most part everyone knows what things cost. So what are you hiding? Your huge overhead due to incompetence?

I'm sure many of them are just happy it's over (or is it?) and want to get on with making a go of their businesses, but in the end it's the consumer that gets screwed.

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......

CNOC are certainly qualified to do so, and are a group of 'interested parties' - that is they 'have dogs in this fight'.

Mayhaps they can afford a court case ?

It surely would reduce their advertising costs as ISPs, from all of the free media coverage !

Knowing the incumbents, this would go all the way to the Supreme Court. Then after losing they would appeal to the government to change the regs.....

The government won't allow the values behind the ####'s to be disclosed on the grounds of national security (their words) but because it would show how much in bed the government is with the incumbents (our words).

Davesnothere, that youtube of "buying a bed" perfectly describes a CRTC consultation process.

However, it failed to consider the argument that when person 1 says person 2's number should be divided by 10, and then person 2 says person's 1 number should be multiplied by 3, that person's two arguments should really be divided by 30

It depends upon who is SAYING it at the time, and whether or not they are talking about what the OTHER guy would have said, and in one of the comments on the actual YouTube page (click link) for either that or the other post of that sketch, I believe that someone actually DID raise the same observation as I think that YOU just did.

During the sketch, they did touch upon this exercise in juxtaposition, but they still made mistakes some of the time anyway.

Here we go, from the first version's comments :

If the guy who multiplied everything by 10 said to multiply the other guy's numbers by 3, shouldn't it be actually by 0.3 ?
[ABhaim 1 year ago]

Heh your right ! - of course he also said 2 twice when he should have said 20 - Guess sometimes its too random even for the Pythons themselves.

(BTW, I wonder what the OP thinks of us NOW ?! )

He's new and shiny when it comes to DSLR, he'll eventually learn we go off on insane tangents and after about 100 posts come back to the original topic.

Just like the ignore topic in canchat that's been going on for months and is over 60 pages .. I'm very surprised the MODS let it this long.

It is one of the less heralded Python sketches, but one of their best, IMNSHO.

I think that we have a couple of mods who are IN on it, plus the OP is an ex-mod.

AR started on one topic, we chastised him for it, and then he changed the subject to ignore the topic, and of course we did.

JF, it just occurred to me how we solve the CBB pricing.

We circulate a group email to all of the IISPs in the 2011-703 receipients list, stating that when Mirko says $22,000 per GigE, that he really means $2,200 - AND state that Bell's A/R department will understand if each IISP sends 1/10 of what we THOUGHT that Mirko had been requesting, as long as the IISPs remind them of Mirko's math issue.

There, SOLVED !

Someone buy me BREAKFAST !

Oh yes, and the Cogeco number ?

Same thing, but divide it by 20 !

[Dave just PUSHed the big red 'EASY' Button.]

You and JF are easy, if Mirko is going buy me breakfast, it's gotta be steak and eggs.
