 | [HN7000S] DNS acceleration [N] Is anyone else having DNS acceleration [N] problems on HN7000s 117 west 1090 MHz.? For 4 days ,red xs clear across the hourly history page, when computer is in use. Almost every web page must be reloaded or refreshed to work. It is annoying and seems to be that the only problem appears to be (Timedout DNS queries) that triggers the red `x. Have done a soft restart off System Control Page, hard restart with total shut down of router, computer and modem and turbo page tear down...nothing helps. Took the router out of the lineup and the problem still exists. |

 | Problem on firefox, chrome, and IE9, with or without the router engaged, did soft restart, hard restart by pulling the plug on all equipment and turbo page tear down with not results.. this is day 4 so it is not a transient problem that will just go away |

 | no proxy server or DNS server other than hughes, I am tempted to go into router and try to install google 8.8.8.8 |

//greg// Sad, I suspect that it is my modem, because no one else has this problem. An update ,last night I decided to use the email on the customer service page, got a very strange rejection page,it was worthless. Tried to do chat off the same page, what a mistake,it was like trying to call India, but took 5 times longer. I had to teach "Stella" how to get to Diagnostics page and once "Stella" got the code,'Stella" broke the connection. The new Hughes "Get Satisfaction" forum is also useless unless you are whining about that you do not understand the new download bank. Today lucky me I get to call India again and see why an upper tier has failed to call in the promised time. |

 | reply to smokey92070 I'm seeing reds in "DNS Acceleration {N}" as well, but not across the board. Always triggered by "Timedout DNS queries". ... When this happens, I can ping the NOC router (gateway) with no packet loss, but have packet loss when pinging websites. ... Seems to be a Hughes problem. ... Since Hughes announced all the improvements, insofar as speeds, etc., I've had nothing but problems. -- G25(93W)/1247H-H/SOHO/.98 2Wt/Gateway 66.82.159.144 |

 | Always triggered by "Timedout DNS queries". ... When I said across the board it is only when a web page is requested, when it is in idle it is all green checks with ...0005 codes. Still waiting for callback and my temperature is rising, sure wish there was away to know if it is NOC or my modem? |

grohgregDunno. Ask The Chief join:2001-07-05 Dawson Springs, KY | reply to smokey92070 Well, the suffix [N] suggests the issue is at the NOC. My interpretation of the [I] is "interface", refering to your modem as the interface between subscriber and provider. So don't write the modem off just yet. I only asked those questions because the modem often throws up red Xs based upon incomplete or misinterpreted diagnostics.

 | Wednesday afternoon 1530 pst, received request from troubleshooter at Hughes Community Support(get satisfaction) for account info, she will look into problem. Promised again this morning by "India" a call from upper support (2 case #,s)that has not happened yet. Will keep advising this forum, the adventure? continues. |

 | Having similar issues in the Chicago area. Ping and speed tests with speedtest.net are not even up to par with a 56Kb dial-up line. Looks like a Hughes issue to me. I wouldn't mess with the modem just yet. |
|
 | reply to smokey92070 Did you ever get a resolution? I am experiencing the same problem with my HN7000s modem here in California. Seems to occur on requests for secure pages. |
|
 | Agreed. Could not have said it better. I too am on my second ticket. I also was promised a call back but never happened. I ended calling hughes again. Told to keep trying after some time to see if it clears up. LOL
Terrible customer / technical support unless you can get through to the executive support. But, what I wish is that they would just post something on their website to inform subscribers that they are experiencing problems. I am on the 113 west as well. |

 | On the first of three tickets I got a call back 1 week after openning it, not the promised 24 to 48 hours. I talked to the tier 4 technician,he stated that NOC was trying to reslove the DNS problems that happening. There was nothing wrong with my modem. They needed the engineers to come up with some new software for the modems to install. This has not happened yet. I am currently working with a senior engineer who watches my modem as I browse from my favorites. This was set up by the Hughes net communityforum. The problem is still alive and well. I send the senior engineer spreadsheets on a daily bases,of how many DNS errors are generated on firefox and chrome browsing. They are working on it..no time table as to a fix for this annoying issue. |

 | This is beyond annoying. This is about a complete service disruption. Anything Google is about dead. Email is down. I cannot send and receive with my outlook. And I have red Xs all over the place. Uplink, DNS (N) (I), Web Acceleration, Turbopage, you name it. After 6 years, I might just drop them because of this. I am paying a real premium to have service where I live, and I am not that rural. I should have some decent service. And what makes it bad is their terrible technical and customer service. |

grohgregDunno. Ask The Chief join:2001-07-05 Dawson Springs, KY | reply to smokey92070 Which Hughes DNS address are you using? I ask, because I haven't experienced a lick of trouble during this entire discussion. And my IPv4 setting is to "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Others may have more current info, but last I heard Hughes only uses 66.82.4.8 and 66.82.4.12 on Ku-band.
Has no one tried any of the alternative (free) DNS servers yet?

 | CMD prompt shows 66.82.4.8 ( on 117 west 1090) and I have not changed my router to use googles 8.8.8,8 yet, but have thought about it often lately.....hoping Hughes will fix it's problem before I go into uncharted areas. When I ping the 66.82.4.8 it shows 4 sent 4 received. If I do decide to change the router I will need step by step instructions. I currently am running 2 desktops and a wireless laptop off that linksys router. |
|
 | reply to smokey92070 Thanks everyone for the help with this problem. I have manually changed my IPv4 settings to the Hughes DNS addresses. (Was set to "obtain automatically"). So far... Better. |

 Linksys Router DNS setting |
I am not having this problem, but I do have my linksys router set to use public DNS servers. I was previously using a DW7000 (now HN9000) with these same public DNS address with no problems. -- HN9000 / |
