Re: [DSL] Cellpipe random reboots / loss of sync (Check logs ple So it actually says "at some point in the future" the manufaturer will release a new firmware which will then be pushed out by Bell 4-6 weeks after said release has been given to them. |

 | reply to TSI Martin Any chance of having Teksavvy remove our modem rental fee?
Can I give my modem back and have the fee removed? (I'm using another Bell based cellpipe which works without reboots) |

Can I give my modem back and have the fee removed? (I'm using another Bell based cellpipe which works without reboots) Doesn't matter if the modem is yours or theirs, you still pay the $8 fee as outlined in the tariffs. | reply to TwiztedZero It is not in the tariff.
The issue is that the tariff says that only Bell can say what equipment works and since they say that only the sagemcom and cellpipe work, and Bell is the only source of these modems then Bell is allowed to charge whatever they want for the modems. This is all in the process of being appealed but for now it is the way it works. |

| reply to TSI Andre I'm disappointed. This is just the same story we've been hearing for ages now. Next week we'll hear that they are still trying to determine if there is even an issue again.
TSI has promised their customers (at least me) a credit of the modem rental once the issue is resolved for the duration of the issue. Bell would do the same (credit for period with non-working service). Will Bell be crediting TSI? Has TSI gone there with Bell? Honestly this is a joke. Bell could get wholesale customers up and running with sagemcoms. They just don't want to.
4 weeks to 8 months is a very long time. Especially given the endless missed dates/promises we've heard about so far. Is there any actual incentive for Bell to get this fixed? Is there any accountability if (when) they miss these dates?
Can the CRTC not do anything here? What Bell is doing on this should be illegal. It is certainly anti-competitive and I would think even criminal (fraudulent) by providing known defective devices while claiming that they work and charging for them. How can this be allowed?
If I hadn't been able to track down my own working modems I would have had to look for alternative service by now. This is clearly not acceptable. |

| reply to Phibian Another issue with these modems is they are sending wrong ones for wrong remotes. I'm on a stinger remote, and I can't get full upload sync because they keep sending me ones with the firmware for the 7330 remotes.
I borrowed one that has proper firmware for Stinger remote, and I have beautiful stats.
I think they are all flashed with the "universal" firmware now, but people who are on Stinger remotes suffer because these firmware are bad for it. -- GO BLUE JAYS!

I've taken to manually rebooting the modem before I have to make an important phone call (I'm using TekTalk) just to try and ensure that it doesn't cut out on me in the middle of it.
The fact that no even temporary fix has been put in place yet is just disgraceful. |

I had to source my own modem, like Phibian , for relief of this issue at a cost of ~$160.
I am still paying rental fees while not using the supplied Cellpipes - I have 2 sitting here in boxes waiting to be returned/disposed of. |

I think they are all flashed with the "universal" firmware now, but people who are on Stinger remotes suffer because these firmware are bad for it. Whats worse was that I got shipped a stinger flashed cellpipe at first, when I'm on a 7330. That firmware/modem doesnt even sync on 7330. That modem didnt even have a chance of working... yet thats what bell sent me?
I agree with what everyone else has been saying, its enough already. Bell keeps saying there will be a fix, by logic that means its broken.
The irony is Bell said wholesalers have to rent their modems because only theirs will work. Well guess what, by Bell's logic we shouldnt use cellpipes because by our own observation the ones that Bell are sending out dont even work properly with the remotes users are on.
So by that same Bell logic teksavvy should be demanding that they use their own sourced modems that we know work well. |

| reply to Phibian Hey guys, since our nice small little thread on this issue is back from the dead I thought I would give everyone an update on the Zyxel modems.
Uptime is now 80+ days with no issues. Only one loss of sync event on one of the two modems - and it was somewhere in the middle of the night when Bell was doing maintenance just before I got the second modem. No other loss of sync or reboots or any other problems. I haven't touched the modems at all since I installed them other than to check the uptime from time to time. I think at this point it is safe to say that without a doubt these things are WAY better than the cellpipe.
It is really nice to have a stable connection now.
I guess we can start pestering TSI on the progress on their side of things on Monday... although I doubt much has changed. |

1 edit | reply to Phibian So what happened in that 1 month where dslreports was down Martin?
Any closer to having a fix?
let me guess...? NO
Excuse my cynism. This is one of the worst ways to treat customers I have ever seen (targeted at Bell). This thread will soon be the most popular post of all times on these forums in terms of views (29k unique views?). Teksavvy do you even realize how many potential customers you are losing because of this? I say its time to get some legal action going. |

 | reply to Phibian Just wanted to share that I have a high margin 25/7 that seems pretty stable. I occasionally get resyncs, but last time for me was on the 4th. Time before was the 28th of April. Time before on the 19th. Seems pretty stable for DSL to me although I wouldn't complain about longer uptimes

said by kripp:What I have understood from this thread is that the Cellpipe modem provided with the 25/7 is garbage. In the best case scenario in which you have ideal DSLAM(STINGER remote) and corresponding firmware(v1.04.3EF), you should disable its main features PPPoE/DHCP/Wireless and have those run through a separate router.
Given I do all of the above and have done so since day 1 (disable PPPoE, DHCP, Wifi), I am operating in the best case scenario with this modem. |

| Occasional resyncs would be more like once every 3-6 months, not once every 10 days...
Back when I was on good old 5/0.8 I got them about once every 3-6 months during the middle of the night as part of a routine maintenance type thing. It looks like I'm not on target for a similar type of experience with the 25/7 service so I don't believe that it is inherently less stable. If you are seeing them any more often than that and your line is physically ok, I would blame your modem. |
