Performance is great while it's up and working.

Check your modem for firmware version and then monitor the stability of the service; that is what this thread is about.

Well, he's only been running it for 3-ish hours, but it's been rock-solid so far. He received the V1 modem (not the newer V2, but I can't find much of a difference besides the external colour), plugged it in, put his info in the router and it was perfect.

I got him to do a speedtest for me, and this is the result:

Luckily, my replacement Cellpipe has only rebooted once since last Thursday, so I don't really have the need to pick one of these up (I don't mean to brag; sorry!). But for anybody who really wants a solution (and has the money to spare), it would appear that it works! Yay!

Omg, so he's running the Zyxel Ikanos version successfully?

Any special configs, can he post a pic of the linterface, like the line stats?

It would appear not. I'm sorry for getting your hopes up, but I'm just the messenger! Apparently that speedtest was from the cellpipe, and the ZyXel isn't working yet.

He exclaimed "it's working" because it got VDSL2 sync, not because it's actually working. It would appear as that this is a really _really_ dumb modem; it doesn't even seem like it has a web interface, nor a DHCP server.

But it does have a console port...

Unfortunately, he's quite far away and not the best with computers, otherwise I'd make up a serial cable for him and get him to poke around.

It would appear that all he has to do is set the VLAN to 35 on the WAN interface on his router... right? I mean, the modem shouldn't care about VLAN, right? (But the Cellpipe has VLAN information...)

Is the Cellpipe maybe adding the VLAN tags on to the outgoing packets without the router behind it being aware? I mean, it'd just make sense to me that with the VLAN being set on the WAN port... it'd work.

I'm thinking I may starve myself for a few days and buy one of these for myself so I can try it out; I'm pretty handy with a console and could probably figure it out.

I'm sorry I let you all down, but fear not! There IS be a way to make it work! We just have to find it. And I will.

I may head up that way and play around with it... see what I can do. I'll keep everybody apprised of the situation.

That'd be great...

I can't imagine the thing isn't configurable in some way...

I wonder if Zyxel tech support can help?

I'd almost prefer to use the console (because I like poking around), but it seems like it may have some sort of web console (apparently it does respond to pings and does have some sort of address assigned to it). He's unplugged it and put it back in the box because he needs internet access, but I'll talk to him and see if he'll send it to me or if I can go see it. We'll see, I guess.

I'd imagine it has some sort of web interface, but if it's a really "hardcore" CPE (I use that term very loosely), it may only be configurable via the console port. Like I said, I'll keep everybody updated on what's going on.

your buddy should let you remote into his computer to see if you can gain access to it, even if its not plugged into the vdsl line...

Yeah, I'll see what I can do. I can't do any more tonight (and this guy is really stubborn and paranoid; he barely accepts my direction over the phone), but I promise I will do as much as I can to try and come up with a working solution (even if it requires me purchasing my own modem). It seems as though I have about $90 sitting in my Paypal account, so if I can come across $60 somewhere, I'll be good!

Although I suppose either way, I'd be able to sell it once I've ascertained whether or not it works... right? Somebody must be willing to purchase it.

The WAN facing interface must be set for efm mode and have vlan 35 set. The VLAN tag on the WAN interface is done on the modem, not on the router.

Either via CLI or web interface, you will have to ensure it is set to efm mode and vlan 35. 100% confirmation this is the solution with Cisco 887v and Juniper srx VDSL2 pim's (broadcom based remotes). By default, in all devices in VDSL2 mode should be set to efm, but the vlan will not be present by default.

So I was thinking, if you want to buy a working modem you could just order Bell's fiber internet service take the Sagecom they send you, cancel your internet service, never return the modem and pay the 200$ they'll charge you for the modem?

Cancel Bhell. Order tek's 25/7 and send the CellPipe back when you get it and keep the other.

Hey guys,

Quick update here. We have been in communication with Bell about this issue and after a long conference call, we anticipate some relief shortly.

Bell is scheduled to get back to us on Monday with an update as to what can be done in the interim to fix this issue until they can fix the issue permanently. They are investigating options such as using other modems, forcing remote Firmware pushes, and anything else under the kitchen sink to get this fixed.

They certainly understand the impact this has caused. I wanted to thank all of you for being patient. I will post an update when I receive it on Monday.

Thanks,

Andre

Andre:

I want to know WTF they're going to do about the issue. I have a modem on order which is going to set me back $160 while I continue to pay rental fees for the non-working unit.

It seems like my friend may be sending me his modem to test, but it seems like he found a way to access the web interface and set the VLAN. We'll see how it fares, I suppose. Hopefully, if Bell keeps their word (as per TSI Andre See Profile), we won't need extra modems. I'm not holding my breath.

If he doesn't, and there's no update by next Monday, I'll buy one of these modems for myself and try to make it work. I just hope I can find somebody to buy it after I'm done.
