Well, I ended up getting a new SB6121...apparently mine is dead. I called in had the new modem provisioned, and after about an hour, I am on the internet, but its all messed up. Apparently the Sb6121 wasn't working and I was getting internet access through the phone service modem (had it connected to a port on my router). I woke up this morning and internet is on, but very slow. MAx download speed is 2.87mb, when I have 60mb service. My encoded mac address is:

Re: [Connectivity] Speed Issue - Not Getting 60mb

Looking at the downstream limit, is it possible my modem is not correctly provisioned?

Your modem provisions are fine, recently RCN bumped up the 60/6 plan to 75/6. As for everything else, i'm sure an unofficial "official" (negativeduck) will be able to help ya out.

I hope so. I called into CS again this morning (wow, 25 minute wait!) and they said everything looked good on their end. At least I have some service, although I was excited to try out the speed bump. I will also say that I appreciate the new representatives-it has improved considerably.

They are also sending a tech out Monday to investigate-hopefully I can avoid that between now and then.

Anything new on your network (outside of your new modem)?

Regardless, it sounds weird that you're having issues AFTER the big increase. Maybe the increase in speeds around your area are causing a bottleneck at your gateway. They did jump all lower speeds (768k to 10MB) up to 15Mb/s. I unfortunately feel this is the reason.

Well, here is essentially what transpired and led up to it.

I called into customer service yesterday to see about reducing my rates. They offered me the 60mb service at a very good rate, and I bit. They said when I got home to power cycle my modem and all would be good. I came home, internet was working, and then went to power cycle. After the cycle, the modem came back on, but did not go online. Made a few calls into TS, and they couldn't do anything. On a whim, I went out and got a new modem (SB6121 which is what I had to begin with). One of the techs thought the signal may have blown up the old modem somehow. I hooked up the new modem, called into TS to have it provisioned, and basically the same thing-it wouldn't go online. All of a sudden, I was able to get online through just one computer. I had the VOIP box connected to my router, and I was able to surf of that, albeit at a slower speed. After that I gave up and unplugged the router connection to the modem. Last time something like this happened, I left it overnight and when I woke up, everything worked. Well, same thing happened this morning, except I am down to 7mb instead of the 60mb I should have, or even the 20mb that I had before. I called TS this morning, and they said everything looks good on their end, so I am keeping my appt for Monday to see whats the issue.

Also, is it possible that My Arris 602 phone box is the issue? It only supports Docsis 2 I believe. I just disconnected it to see if I notice any improvement.

Ok....after another call to TS (which I got disconnected on-my fault), it seems like I am having some success. The new speediest page shows 3.78mbps download. The old test page shows about 30mbps, and speediest.net shows about 57mbps. WHen I download off usenet, I am getting about 70mbps. So, I guess its operational. I still haven't cancelled the tech, and may just keep the appointment. Also, how many channels should I have for upload?

You should only need one channel for upload... (I don't think RCN is bonding upstream yet...) But it doesn't matter. How many channels your modem is using shouldn't matter to you.

If you're getting the speeds you signed up for, then you should be happy.. If you're not, RCN should fix it!!! Simple as that...

Good luck with your new modem, and happy new year!!!

I wouldn't cancel the service call just yet, but someone from the PA market may contact you to cancel it.

There does seem be a noise problem in your area that's likely killing performance. I changed the channel width for the time being that might help, but they are still going to have to do something locally in PA. I am sending your information over to the Director of Operations for PA though.

(Sorry Been covering things solo over the holiday's so I had no time to really get over to the boards.)
