Re: [App Update] Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.60.0.1800 released

Here's a problem I had with the update on one computer : XP HOME SP3

MBAM Pro installed the update, 1.60.0.1800 and a reboot was required. After the reboot, the computer never boots up fully. All I get is an hour glass and never get back totally into Windows.

Constant hard reboots yield no results. Uninstalling MBAM in Safe Mode lets me get into Windows. Now the computer is fine but unprotected. Of course, I have wasted 25 bucks on the program.

Too busy right now but I will whine and cry on the MBAM Forum later.

Thanks, siljaline.
Like some others, I had problems when updating via the internal updater on one machine. (Stop error and program wouldn't run).

(snip)

In fact, there are several threads over at the Malwarebytes' Forum with similar problems with this update. However, it appears they are quick with solutions, as always.

I had the same problem so had to uninstall and reinstall. Thanks all for the posts on how to fix the problem.

I have to say, the fact that this occurred did not imbue me with confidence. I'm a paid user on a Win7 machine. Why should a problem have occurred to begin with?

Thank heaven I went into the registry to fish out my license number and product key, as they were needed for the reinstall.

Yes, I SHOULD have saved those originally---but silly me, I feel that once I install a program and enter the product key, I'm done! Who dreamed that MBAM would malf up a direct upgrade?

Me too, but since I use the free version of MBAM I'm not planning on loosing any sleep over this finicky update.

Most of the posters in the MBAM forum who had a problem were also running Zone Alarm. Others had problems with the paid version not installing correctly. I did the update internally on four different computers with no issues. Three are running Win 7 Pro 64-bit (each a different brand of computer) and those have the free version of MBAM. The other is my personal old Dell with XP Home SP3 and the paid version. MBAM requested a reboot for this one, but there was no problem. Since there are many differences in hardware and software between users, the possibility of a conflict is great. I fully expected a problem myself, and consider myself lucky this time.

Oh, man. I am truly disappointed with MBAM. I haven't done anything as yet but d/l the new version onto my desktop along with the MBAM-clean and dug out my old PRO License key. I really never thought this update would be such a problem. I run XP sp3, so will, for good measure, follow the instructions from Wilders, even though MBAM has asked if it can update itself through the program itself. I recall having to go through a similar action after an update, the result of which was an error. I understand that with all the programs out there, it's hard to sometimes get an update that works out of the box/or automatically from within the box, but...GEESH! Again, MBAM. There must be a way to code things so as to get around so many problems.

Yes, what Triple Helix said.
I'm actually surprised there aren't a whole lot more problems (and a whole lot more often), considering the vast number of different hardware and software configurations people have.
I suspect this effected a small number of users, comparatively speaking. For me, it was only a minor inconvenience, and again...something I think we have to expect from time to time. (Actually, I can't even remember when I've had a problem updating a program version within the program itself until now, and I've lost count of how many times I've updated it in the past).
Certainly not cause for me to lose faith in the program, nor lose any sleep when all is said and done.
Don't get me wrong...there are many events that have caused me to lose sleep. This just isn't one of them.

@ ---> Everyone that is having a small or large issues with the transition to the new build of MBAM.

There is a long active and ongoing Thread ongoing at Wilders - this thread is being hosted by Marcin himself and other staff from MBAM.

You are encouraged to post your issues there (or) individually at the MBAM Forum

Thanks for your kind attention and I hope all of you are able to get each of your issues resolved.

Hmmm... Came back to this thread to see others posting on the upgrade issues. In most cases I would uninstall and re-install any upgrade to MBAM, but the auto update mechanism preformed smoothly on my rig? It seems like it's a hit 'n miss?

I've always preformed the 'auto update mechanism' myself, Dustyn. And never a problem. Like we mentioned before, just one of those things that happens now and then.
I fully intend to use the internal updater in the future as well, unless I see a reason not to.
But it's always worked flawlessly for me, and I'm confident once this particular one is straightened out it will continue to do so for many updates to come.
