| I suppose its inevitable that i will have to do it someday, as apps require iOS5 or later. I just got an update to 1Password saying it was the final release for IOS3/4.
I guess I'll see what the response is to this JB, if there are issues. Besides doing a JB on the first day is nuts, as Cydia is usually unusable.

I just jailbroke my 3GS and the IPSW was self-contained (although in the zip there's a shortcut to download one).

kudos:1 | i really thought that i would use this more. however, most of the people that i work with that have iphones (we're a shop where you can choose your own device and then the company will pay for the service) have yet to upgrade to ios5/imessage. most of the "techno people" have -- but a lot of my coworkers haven't updated their phones since buying them.
of course -- your results may vary.

kudos:6 | That's not what untethered means in a jailbreaking sense. Tethered jailbreaks must be reapplied via computer every time the device restarts. Untethered just means the jailbreak holds between reboots, not necessarily that you can jailbreak directly on the device.

Just wanted to pass on a few thoughts post JB...
Jailbroke my IP4 5.0.1 with the new Redsnow - piece of cake, no issues at all getting into DFU or with the process.
I have had a couple issues with Cydia Apps - most likely due to the fact that the developers have not yet release IOS5.x compatible versions....
pkgbackup - did not detect my old restore file
infinifolders - chucked all of my apps out of existing folders
openSSH - unable to ssh into the phone
various signal bar apps - unable to get any of them to change signal bar colors
it was nice to get cardswitcher back - forgot how much I liked that app

I get it. When I jail broke my iPad (before iOS 5) it was completely without the computer....still debating it. Unsure how well the Siri app is working...

There is an update out there on Cydia - to the Corona app. Apparently the JB (both redsnow and corona) have an issue with the App Launcher not working correctly, Sauric has fixed this in Corona 1.0.3 - it is safe to run this over an already JB device.

Did this work on your phone before you JB???
You might want to try installing the Corona app on Cydia - apparently there was a bug witht the AppLauncher (both redsnow and corona) in the jailbreak - the fix can be run on a phone that was already JB with either redsnow or Corona
