Re: [OS X] FaceTime Problem - Barely audible volume My apologies for letting this slip... I really appreciate your advice and suggestions.
It's still messed up.
The iMac is on the other end... not at mine. I'll suggest that he take it there if he's able to. I'm not sure what they'll be able to do...
- When I do FaceTime with him iPhone to iPhone, it works just fine. - When I do FaceTime iPhone to his computer, he can hear me fine, but I can barely hear him. - When I do FaceTime computer to computer, he can hear me fine, but I can barely hear him....
I have a feeling that upgrading to Lion totally borked the Microphone sensitivity on his end. Things worked fine under Snow Leopard. iChat even works fine now.
I've reported this as a FaceTime bug to Apple Feedback... (Do they read this stuff?)
Is there anything else I can do to fix this other than get him a brand new iMac with microphone internals that don't get messed up due to a software update? -- "We're going to start at one end of (Fallujah), and we're not going to stop until we get to the other. If there's anybody left when that happens, we're going to turn around and we're going to go back and finish it." Lt. Col. Pete Newell: 1st Inf. US Army |

 | Could be one of a few things, the simplest of fixes is use an external mic. It also could be something as simple as software running in the background or the mic picking up background noise that causes it to drop in and out.
The difference between ichat and FaceTime, is ichat uses the quicktime frameworks more extensively the FaceTime and can vary the data stream. FaceTime is more hard lined (for a lack of better explanation).
Yes, the feedback is read. |

No other software is running besides iTunes and iPhoto.
What do you think?
Glad to hear that the feedback is read. Do they ever reach out to people to follow-up? -- "We're going to start at one end of (Fallujah), and we're not going to stop until we get to the other. | You can try going to the root level library (the one right on the hard drive). Inside there is a folder called preferences. Remove the com.apple.bezelservices.plist file and restart.
This file controls the speakers, microphone, ambient light sensor and a few other things (all minor). After the restart try again.
The feedback is read, but its a one-way conversation as there is usually too much to sift though to reply to each one. But stranger things have happened. |

I'll screen share into his system over iChat and give that a try later tonight.
Fingers crossed. I'll let you know! |

Where do you plug the headset in to test this? The headphone jack or the microphone jack? |
|
 | If its a microphone, it goes in the sound in port. a USB headset will do but sound in and out.
Do you have a 3rd person to test with? If not, placing a call into AppleCare for them to have you connect with them might be useful. (if this was already done/discussed please ignore, I'm on day two without sleep). |
