Re: [Cable] POI Update by Marc

Oh

+1 to another stop-sell for McNicoll. Things will get worse during holiday break.

We met with Rogers again today and the result is this:

1) London (800 york)
2) Richmond Hill(234 Newkirk)
3) 333 Bloor
4) Brampton (13 Hansen)

These links will be upgraded on Monday the 12th.

They couldn't do anything for Dupont.

All other upgrades will go to the new year.

Thanks for the update. I'm in the Richmond Hill POI and I switched from Rogers to TS because of the congestion and slowdowns on Rogers. With all the insanity of growth of TS, my speeds have slowed down to near the speeds that I was getting with Rogers.

I'm skeptical that the upgrade will REALLY happen on the 12th as many deadlines have come and gone, but I will hold out.

I appreciate your cander on these forums - coming out and telling it how it is. Very easy for a CEO to stand in the shadows and let someone else take the brunt of customer complaints.

Great, at least another month and a half of horrible performance for Dupont. You leave Rogers thinking you've left the worst behind, but they always find some way to screw you over again.

No where to run and no where to hide!

Only in Canada? you say?

So the London one will be for ALL of London?

Yes, the entire city. I'm not aware of any areas with local congestion right now here.

I'm optimistic that our London date is firm this time, but I dot get how it takes them sooooo long to do no upgrades then suddenly they can do 4 in one day?? I thought it was more of man power, or, tech shortage than a component supply delay.

can someone explain what these upgrade will do?

faster speeds or more reliable speeds for more users?

The latter.

The upgrades are creating more capacity. More specifically adding a gigabit link from Teksavvy to that rogers POI. What it should do is create more reliable speeds during peak times.

Correct me if I'm wrong... I seem to recall someone saying it takes a while for the new links to balance out and rebooting your modem will speed the process up.

I would try to avoid rebooting the modem at this time with the DHCP issues. Since Rogers seems to split out the TPIA traffic, per link, they may reduce the available IPs per connexion.

That's for DSL. I don't think rebooting your modem would have any similar effect on cable.

I've read TSI say it can be up to a week to see improvement and 2 weeks I think for it to be balanced properly. So basically up to 2 weeks to know what the results are for sure (I expect to see gradual improvements within a day or so). Rebooting modem, I don't remember, but I recall seein that recommendation as well. Once the upgrade is complete we should ask

Shaw is pushing 8.8 terabits per second through a single pair of fibres (100 gigabit with 88 channels using DWDM), so there are always solutions

Yeah.

I think what you speak of applies to the DSL side and the individual AGAS links, since Bell does not properly load balance them.

For cable, if capacity is added to a POI, the improvement is instant. I've gone thru many POI upgrades on TSI Cable, and thats how it always feels.

k guys.

So far London, Richmond Hill & Brampton have been upgraded.

Bloor: Rogers is having trouble bringing it up. So possibly later today or tomorrow.

Any info on when Scarlett's scheduled upgrade is supposed to take place?
I noticed this POI is started to slowdown again over the past week.

Does this mean that the stop sells will be lifted? I am wondering about London specifically.

Tell them to give the router one of Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra.

Thanks! That is a nice surprise as I didn't expect Brampton to be completed the this early!

Interesting that my router stopped getting an IP until I used the MAC of my work laptop Saturday morning. Then obtained a 108.162 IP so perhaps this issue was related to preparations for the upgrade?
