Warrior advice for 4.3?????

Me and my officers were figuring we were short some DPS on the Slime boss in the new Raid. My MT whom is an CO-GM with me wanted some pro's opinions on his Tanking Spec. He does 15-24k on trash and 12-14 on boss. He is just wondering about his spec, gem, enchant choices. He feels like he is missing one aspect or thing. He does follow the sheeple mentality and uses different choices to say the least. He is a pro ass tank just looking for something maye he is overlooking.

His name is Litchslapper on Galakrond

Your tank really shouldn't be the "weak point" in your DPS. Even if he bumps up his damage, it might be 1-2k more DPS. Your DPSers cover that with dice rolls.

For single target damage, move the points out of Thunderstruck and put them in Deep Wounds. It won't affect much, but it'll be more damage. Alternately, move the Impending Victory points because that talent is horribad.

Do your healers care that he takes a lot more damage gemming and enchanting for threat like that?

I haven't palyed for a long time so this maybe a stupid question. Do hit and expertise matter that much for tanking? The last time I really played they didn't mean much for tanks.

jofos,

hit and exp do not matter as far as threat is concerned anymore, what you get from gear is plenty, the only thing it would effect to have more of either would be damage output. for a warrior tank as long as you have enough hit for shield slam to hit the target you have enough.

Shield Slam is on the same hit table as everything else, so your slams will tend to miss (it sucks).

Hit and expertise are not necessary for threat, but they are your best stats for damage output. Threat gearing/gemming usually means getting those to cap.

I am a little concerned that your MT is going to intentionally lower his survivability. If your guild ONLY does super-easy content then sure go for it but it would be better if your healers started dps in their spare time for overall raid dps IMHO. I would suggest keeping some hit/expertise trinkets handy perhaps for special situations but as long as your tank isn't losing threat he should focus on reducing damage taken.

no, hit an exp are practically worthless for tanks. A good tank reforges all hit and expertise to dodge/parry/mastery. Hit and expertise are not needed for threat generation. Survivability is what matters. A good or even fair tank would never even think of regorging a mitigation stat to hit or exp.

Damage = threat. When you find a level that you are comfortable with where everything isn't dodge/miss/parry THEN reforge for mitigation. Due to the changes in 4.3 where tanks get more threat per damage, the amount of hit/exp has been greatly reduced. Also, if you have a hunter that knows that they are doing, or a rogue... you don't need to reforge anything to hit or exp, or even enchant for hit/exp. Try to keep your Dodge/Parry near the same. After that stack Mastery. Also I've found that mixed gems with parry/stam, mastery/stam work better in red/yellow sockets. For blue sockets use straight stam.

If the DPS is lacking on fights, it has nothing to do with the tank. From what you are saying he is pulling about the same DPS I pull on my warrior when tanking. I have a lot more hit and exp on my warrior because I run a lot of 5 mans with no hunter or rogue. I don't see a difference if I lose .40 parry from reforging 1 or two pieces out for hit (speaking in terms of Damage Mitigation). Any decent healers have no problem healing me and I've never been called a "squishy tank".

a really good blocking tank can get away with this... especially a pro warrior. As a healer, I start to worry when an avoidance tank is doing it.

sidenote: does he really sometimes DW tank?

Sometimes he does. He has a real problem with cookie cutters builds and playstyles. He has bags full of Weapons and trinkets he plays with all the time.

I think you are looking at my DK tank Lichslapper which i very rarely play, set up mostly for farming.

Let me clarify a few things, my current build is ideal for our current content and our current raid make up.
Current problems i am having(in raid), i am finding myself rage starved and was wondering if there was anything that i missed to justify this.
I will explain my stance on mastery in a later post no time right now work calls.
