True on the legacy boxes - there are still many MANY DCT-2224 (rebuilt) STBs out in the field (the CSR had brought one last month when preparing to add a new upstairs outlet) - we told the CSR to take that moldie-oldie STB back.

While there are ARE STBs that support HDMI (you did, in fact, mention the Pace boxes along with the newer Motorola and Cisco STBs), they aren't the majority, let alone the default, in the majority of Comcast systems - not even in the Beltway Region.

In my region...a few months.
We finish analog cuts in the end of March (basic lineup). New guide to the SA markets to play catchup, then the new UI Guide to both markets at the same time.

I think it will take more than a few months before Comcast is ready to deploy On-Screen Guide 2.0 nationwide. Ted Hodgins and his staff are busy patching the S25 guide in the SA/Cisco set-top box markets and adding A28 features (interactive features, myDVR manager, add more Xfinity TV application features, etc.) to the S25 guide. That new guide is scheduled to start being deployed in mid 2012 and the deployment will probably take at least 3 months. Ted Hodgins is very optomistic with his schedule dates and very often they end up being delayed. The deployment of On-Screen Guide 2.0 was with the Cisco RNG 200N with AnyRoom DVR functionality in a couple of SA/Cisco set-top box test markets and hasn't been expanded beyond the test markets.

I think that's a realistic schedule, but I am not sure even that is safe.

The following posts are from Comcast's Ted Hodgins, Sr. Director, Video Product Development - Navigation, in Media & Entertainment, "New Guide for Scientific Atlanta Cable Boxes" blog:

Ted thank you, I am assuming that guide 2.0 will be somtime in June of 2012 baring any unforeseen additional delays? However you did mention only newer boxes? Dose that imply that if we have an older box we are stuck with the guide we have now? I have two HD SA boxes explorer 4250HDC will they be able to be upgraded to guide 2.0 or 3.0? Thanks again am looking forward to the guide being more complete than what it is.

Thanks
Jim

Hello again Jin Nava.

On Screen Guide 2.0 »www.xfinity.com/onscreenguide2 is already available to many customers in several selected areas of Florida, Georgia and Mississippi on the RNG 200N cable box as we introduce AnyRoom DVR to our Scientific Atlanta/Cisco customers. Customers would have to pro-actively subscribe to that new service and get the new guide experience along with it.

The RNG boxes have more memory and can support the more advanced functionality and graphics. You will see On Screen Guide 2.0 coming out to many more SA/Cisco markets this year. We have taken advantage of the additional horsepower, memory and processing speed in our newest RNG devices. Those will be the boxes that get more features, more graphics and a much more robust on-screen guide.

All of the Cisco branded RNG series boxes will eventually get On Screen Guide 2.0 The non-RNG boxes are not capable of supporting On Screen Guide 2.0.

If the new guide is something that is important to you and something that you really want, we can certainly arrange to swap out your cable boxes when the time comes.

Thanks again for your comments and thanks for being a Comcast customer.

EDIT: Jim Nava had a followup post (»blog.comcast.com/2010/05/new-gui···nt-42153) and Ted Hodgins replied (»blog.comcast.com/2010/05/new-gui···nt-42157)

Those posts describe the features of the next guide (Summer 2012) and the current guide (S25) in the SA/Cisco set-top box markets.

Chatanooga also has this. This is because of the chantanooga power cable and att uverse systems. There was a link at the top of the page yesterday.
BUT this doesn't answer the question of when Motorola systems will see this guide and does it include the facebook apps, etc?

It looks like Chatanooga is testing On-Screen Guide 3.0 (Xfinity Spectrum DVR) since the article mentions apps. I don't think On-Screen Guide 2.0 supports apps. The Xfinity Spectrum DVR doesn't use Motorola set-top boxes. It uses Pace set-top boxes instead.

Since On-Screen Guides 2.0 and 3.0 are still in testing no one knows when they will be deployed in a Motorola system. It may be a long time before Motorola systems see either On-Screen Guide 2.0 or 3.0.

Comcast is just starting to roll out On-Screen Guide 2.0 to select SA/Cisco markets on the Cisco RNG 200N DVR with AnyRoom functionality. After that it will be rolled out to other Tru2way SA/Cisco RNG set-top boxes and Tru2way Motorola set-top boxes.

Comcast chattanooga having on-screen apps doesn't necessarily mean they have on screen guide 2.0 or 3.0. I did not see any guide screen shots in that article, only apps.

"Comcast has a partnership with the American Heart Association, and they are working together on a heart channel to educate people about health issues.

Comcast is also working with the Hamilton County YMCA to create an On Demand channel that will provide a sampling of the exercise classes offered at the local YMCAs.

Also in the works is a channel that will provide help for parents and local school children.

Comcast is working with four pilot high schools—Howard, Normal Park, Red Bank and Soddy Daisy—on programs in which students film content.

It started out as mainly sports but is expanding into academics.

There are plans to film ACT prep classes and make them available On Demand.

“I’m a big believer in public education,” Weigert said."

I'm hoping this spreads to other areas of the country like mine.

the fact that they are testing these is good news. Whether or not we ever see these is another thing all together.
