 | New HD STB outputs pink Hi everyone. A few weeks ago I exchanged by old SD STB for one of the new HD boxes (since I found out that SD and HD are now the same price in my area). Ever since I hooked it up it outputs a pink-tinted picture (as shown in the picture), until I change the input mode of either my TV or my audio receiver the box is connected to (which then at that point the color is fixed). Once I turn everything off again and back on, it will again output pink.
I've tried changing HDMI cables thinking it might be a faulty cable, but its not. I can't figure out whats causing it. My Xbox 360 is connected the same way to my TV (through my audio receiver) as my box and does not suffer the same problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Do I just have a faulty box?

 | Try hooking the stb directly to the TV. If it works fine, then may be a handshake problem through your audio receiver. |

Have you tried changing the order of how you power things on? |

Have you tried changing the order of how you power things on? Yes I've tried turning my TV on first, receiver first, and my box first. Nothing works until I either change the input on my TV OR my receiver. it makes no sense.
I'll try hooking it directly to my TV and see if that works. |

 | reply to mnl1121 Sorry for the late response. Yes plugging the box directly into the TV fixed the problem so it must be my audio receiver. Does anyone know how to fix the handshake issue with the receiver? |

 | reply to mnl1121 This can not be a handshaking issue. If handshaking is the problem the STB will not display any video. No key, no encrypted video. Looks like a bad or broken receiver if the cable is not bad.

 | I didn't have it with my SD box. Why all the sudden it happens now that I got an HD box?
Ugh I hate how just because HDMI is digital that the devices have to "talk" to one another. With analog it just sends the signal through the cable even if the cable isn't attached to anything. With HDMI its different and now its causing this issue....
Can you guys tell me why the issue is fixed when I switch inputs on either my TV or my audio receiver? I am very tech savvy, but this issue doesn't make any sense to me. |

 | reply to mnl1121 Can you get access to another activated HD STB and swap it in for another data point? |

| reply to mnl1121 What receiever are you using? Is video processing turned on in the receiever? If it is try turning it off. Chances are the video processing of your TV does a way better then that of your reciever. Allow the video signal to pass through the reciever. Also look to see if there are frimware updates for your reciever...and TV. This may be an issue with your model receiver or TV that has been addressed. |

Ill check for firmware updates but I don't think there are any (my TV is a Vizio and have checked before. My receiver doesn't look like it can even accept an update). |

sneskid join:2008-01-10 Arlington, VA | reply to mnl1121 I've seen this happen a couple of times now, with my qip7100 and my Sony CRT TV! It's going through an HDMI switch I bought from Monoprice, but I doubt that has anything to do with it, as the switch doesn't do any processing. Oddly, I have never seen this happen before 1.9 was pushed in my area. I have had handshake issues before, but these always resulted in colored "snow". Either way, it's a weird bug. |

I haven't tried another box yet. Holidays have been busy. |

 | Your Sony is causing pink screen. Sony is also known to have a high pitched squeal during local ad inserts. Despite higher prices, They make crap products. |

Again your just another person sayings its my receiver without giving any proof. That doesn't help. While there is evidence suggesting its my receiver I also have evidence its not.
Despite Sony products normally being higher priced this particular unit was actually heavily competitively priced.
ANYWAY Sony doesn't make crap products and I'd really appreciate someone that would take my issue seriously and actually give a reason as to why they think its my receiver. |

More FiberPremium,MVM join:2005-09-26 West Chester, PA kudos:28 | reply to mnl1121 IMO, the definitive test is going to be swapping the STBs and seeing if the problem follows the STB or not.
If the problem follows the STB, then the STB is bad. If the problem remains after swapping the STBs, then the problem is a cable or your receiver.
You said you were going to do this. Until you actually swap the units, anything is just speculation. -- There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't.
