| Cancelling ESP. How long does it take? I filed the paperwork back on October 3rd (within 30 days of sign-up and no repair claims) to cancel my Ford Extended Service Plan but my payoff amount on Ford Credit website still has not changed.
When I requested the cancellation in person and in writing I was given a copy of the cancellation request and told to call back in three weeks to make sure all was well which I did.
I have not gotten confirmation from them yet that it has been processed.
I will follow up today.
Have any of you folks had any experience cancelling an ESP and if so, how long should it take for your payoff amount to reflect the cancellation?
Many thanks,

| Being a child of the 70's the ESP part of your titled lured me in. I have always been curious about ESP. Then I read your post and saw ESP =Extended Service Plan. Of that, I don't know. -- Is a person a failure for doing nothing? Or is he a failure for trying, and not succeeding at what he is attempting to do? What did you fail at today?. |

Irun Manwhat obstacle?Premium join:2002-10-18 Walden, NY | reply to workablob I cancelled an ESP on a Saturn I purchased years ago. IIRC it took less than a month, and the refund was a check cut and made payable to myself... this despite financing through GMAC! -- I turned on my computer for this? |

 | reply to workablob The plan itself is likely canceled within a day, I suppose maybe a week at most. The dealership cancels it in the system so it's only a matter of when they do it. You can call any dealer service department and give them the VIN to see if it still lists an active ESP plan. Ford credit is screwed up to begin with so it may well be months before the payoff amount changes. You can purchase an ESP plan again at a later date, from any Ford dealer at that. There are Ford dealers that sell these for near nothing over their cost just to have a large volume of ESP sales. When I canceled mine I purchased again from a dealer online for $1500 less 11 months later. I forget the specifics but I think after 1-year/12k miles there's a $100 surcharge. |

It makes me rest easy knowing this is SOP for Ford. I'm not going to get a check so there's no hurry. The length of my loan will decrease by about a year so by the time it gets to that point I suspect my payoff amount will get updated.
I appreciate the info ImpetusEra!

| reply to workablob How much did you pay for the extended warranty to decrease loan length by a year?
I thought we had overpaid for ours. Wife wanted the peace of mind and when I was grumbling they lowered the price some. Well enough so harder to argue with wife. Did not add anywhere near a year to loan even with interest rate. |

Did not add anywhere near a year to loan even with interest rate. They tacked on a few warranties and kept the loan terms the same by dropping the interest rate from 6.99 to 4.8.
I realized what had happened after the fact and got them to cancel all the warranties and keep the interest rate at 4.8.

 | Always a shell game with the dealers. When I bought mine I knew warranty could be had for less online but didn't go so far as to price them. When I mentioned I could purchase one at a later date online the finance manager immediately knocked $200 off. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that the price was fair to me and them with the knowledge I had 30-days to cancel for a full refund. Much to their dismay I canceled it and purchased elsewhere as they were making a killing off what they sold it to me for. |
