| They know about torrent And they know customers get caught in p2p networks and threatened by dmca letters even those who tunnel through VPN proxies such as ipredator. That thing is a garage and offers bogus anonimonity. I know it did not disconnect and transmitted through open Internet. , I force interface port on my p20 program . So if not me whose fault? I predators who very likely released my info to stay on business while still stealing cash from users for "lousy anonymous protection"! |
|
 | If you're smart, you download in off peak hours with a fast connection and then close your torrent program...Yeah I know this doesn't fit the torrent idea of sharing, but gotta protect yourself in the US. Plenty of eastern europeans sharing that don't give 2 cents about the MIAA. |

| How does that protect me? There is. Nothing that stops them from logging traffic at night and reading next morning.
Question is how they found my real ip since I was behind vpn all the time? Either they broke encryption of pptp tunnel or interrogated piratebay ipredator owners who give no damn about their customers and give away info to protect themselves and their scam from being shut down. |
|
 | Oh its not a sure way of protection, it is more of playing the odds... I don't stay on very long, and they only hammer you if you are uploading content, not downloading it. Of course, if you are downloading several movies daily, your odds are higher that you will get caught. I may download a movie or couple shows per week & then logout. Never been caught...
Now since I work for my ISP, I know how I can login and pull an IP that is not traceable back to me, so if the RIAA or other agency came looking with a subpoena, we would have to send it back that we didn't have record of that IP :-P But I don't torrent enough to even worry about that... |

 | what do you think about use of seedbox? does it offer better protection than "anonymous" vpns? |
|
|
|
 | As long as it's sitting in a jurisdiction that can't be touched by the RIAA. If it's in the US, then it would only take a court order to get all of their records. The problem with that is bandwidth, as you are going to have fluctuating speeds when a seedbox is sitting in Ukraine or Russia... |
|
 | piratebay ipredator is outside U.S jusridiction too (in Sweden) yet I still got DMCA letter from my ISP. Which indicates it doesn't have to be in the U.S. |

A fav phrase of mine comes to mind: "Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence".
There are many implementations of VPN that are not secure. I didn't know who Ipredator was but according to instantfundas.com they use PPTP. Notice that, in the blue-tinted video box, InstantFundas.com cites a TorrentFreak report claiming the Swedish Government has been exploiting PPTP security holes to identify who is inside the VPN.
Which isn't so surprising. Sweden is under tremendous political pressure to curb infringing content traffic so, if that's your game, it would seem smart to route your traffic though somewhere else. |

I use an off-shore seedbox. $20/Mo for a CentOS install and 500GB/Month bandwidth. Rtorrent for P2P and then I simply SSH-Mount the content and stream it to VLC on my local machine. Never had a problem, and it's cheaper than a good VPN.

 | if I have to pay above $10 I might as well rent a legal content from amazon vod or sony online network (from my sony b-ray player). I do not watch much tv/movies except on weekends and redbox is really cheap and has some good movies. |

I would rent content except for the fact that it is loaded with DRM, and more shit than a Christmas turkey. Linux only here, I don't have windows or mac, nor do I have a TV. Netflix and the rest require Gates-ware or Jobs-ware. Hell, I would even pay for cable if it were commercial-free! I can't see paying for content, and then be assaulted by moronic ads every 12 minutes! I'm not drinking that cool aid.

| video rental let you skip previews. the only thing you can't skip is fbi warning but how long it last? its few seconds.
and there is no commercials in videos you rent from zune, itunes, amazon vod or whatever. No one would want to pay $4 for streaming rental then. Its not the same as owning but most movies I see only once.
Yes its all you can eat, if you have too much time, but for most busy folks, who work 8-5 and later have some things to do 6-9, don't have much time to watch movies or shows except on weekends. |
