Re: [ALL] Ask ShawSean

On Shaw EXO on demand, can we get the whole series that is currently airing added rather then just two weeks of shows, sometimes we can miss a whole month. Also, can we get an App added to Apple TV to view all our shows on Shaw VOD? that would be even easier....

P.S. I really don't mind commercials in HD quality shows that are provided to us freely. I don't like paying for TV Shows. Movies and Music yes, but TV Shows no...

@lazz - I've got no ETA's for DNLA at the moment unfortunately.

@ShawPG - unlimited packaging is part of the phase2 rollout (post DNU)

@pkarlos - In regards to the guide issue you're having with recording times I'd like to do some troubleshooting on our end. Could you contact me with an example of what programs you're having problems with specifically?

Sure, I stop relying on the device months ago to get accurate episodes by episodes in order they air. Give me a few days to round the info up, also some shows have stopped airing for the season or ended completely, but I will see if I got any left giving issues.

P.S. I start a new Job in Sales tomorrow so I'll be quite busy for the next bit.

Hello there,

Do you think that Shaw would ever impose draconian measures regarding torrents? Let's say like sending letters to customers who download from public torrents sites.

Thank you

I'm getting an increased amount of jitter lately, overall, to all locations tested with speedtest.net. Is there currently issues with Calgary (AB?) at the moment or should I contact a technician? This has been an ongoing issue as of the last couple weeks.

First, sorry for the delay in responding, apparently it's not showing anon users as new posts on this thread for me. kinda weird.

@bashtene - I've got absolutely no idea.

@wormed - if you can register and pm me your contact details - I'll look into it further for you.

Cheers.

I made this thread a while ago about a lag issue I've been having. Unfortunately, a few days before the site went down, I found a few things that cause the lag issue and sent you a PM. I'm not sure if the PM went through, though.

I'll try to explain the problem and what causes it here, so you don't have to read all the random info in that thread.

Problem:
• A few games that I play instantly get lag spikes when certain programs are run (more info below). I believe these games use TCP instead of the usual UDP. All other UDP games that I play are fine and unaffected. The problem is present with or without the router. The modem is in bridge mode at the moment.

Causes:
• uTorrent's "DHT" feature. A few seconds after enabling this feature, TCP games will instantly have insane lag spikes.
• uTorrent connecting to a public tracker. Not sure on the specifics here, but using a private tracker does not cause the lag issue.
• Signing in to Diablo 3. I have no clue why this would ever cause a lag issue, but sure enough, when my brother logs into the game I get the lag spikes for about 5 minutes. For some reason it's only about 5 minutes instead of the hours I normally get from opening a torrent program, though.

Solution (temporary until the issue can be fixed):
• The only way I've found to get rid of the spikes are to change my IP address or use a VPN to connect to the game. Changing my IP involves changing the router's MAC address and then restarting the modem.

It looks like the modem is throttling itself with TCP games anytime something with peer2peer is running or has been running recently. Either something is wrong with the modem or a setting is simply not set correctly.

Thanks. Hopefully you can help me out here.

Traffic Shaping. It's happening upstream.

Google "Net Neutrality".

@flailingbart - I didn't get the pm you sent me unfortunately, must have been right before the site went down.

As for the issue you're having, please pm me your contact details and I'll investigate further.

Cheers.

Is it possible that you are maxing out your upstream with the p2p traffic?

Nope. I could have uTorrent going at 1KB/s up and down, be connected to 1 seed/peer, and the problem will be there. Closing uTorrent doesn't fix the problem either. Only changing my IP will fix it.

I'm pretty sure it's exactly what fender said it is. While lagging in-game, I can see everyone else moving around and chatting fine, but only my actions are the ones lagging.

Sean,

I've just moved to Calgary, used to be a Rogers customer in Ontario. Does Shaw offer any new customer deals for internet (I don't own a TV)?

Thank you.

Hi Sean,

A while back I received a flyer that said my area was soon upgrading to digital service. Recently (within the last few weeks) I noticed that my IP address had changed to an IP that isn't something that is typically a Shaw IP. For example, if it was previously something like 68.147.***.***, it's now 170.0.***.***. Just wondering if this is related to the switchover. Thanks.

Shaw IP's as of late have been using different IP spaces other than 68.x.x.x and 96.x.x.x. 17x.x.x.x has been in use for some time now.

Is a list of all of Shaw's IP addresses, including their massive IPv6 allotment.

What IP you are getting, has nothing to do with the switchover as @XTORT metioned, they have all been used for several years now, just maybe not in your area. - With the exception of the IPv6 addresses and the 204. addresses, there are not many of them and they are newer

A long while back, Shaw addresses were almost all 24.

Wonder how Shaw's planning on doing IPv6... DHCPv6 or just router adverisement/prefix discovery?

Yeah, back when it was called Shaw@Home and Videotron was still around in Alberta.

Sean,

Any word from the engineers on when IPv6 will start coming to customers?

I would love a small block of addresses. /120, /121, or even /122 to even beta test for Shaw with.

As long as it is my equipment as the default gateway (come to think of it, it would be nice if the IPv4 blocks were this way too) - proper ACL and such.

@RedStarInc - I would have to refer you to one of our product experts for more information on that. If you'd like to register and pm me with your contact details, I could setup a call back with one of our agents at your convenience.

@caffeine_cat - Due to upgrades in your neighborhood, your connection was moved to new serving equipment, and received a new IP address.

@IPv6 questions - I don't have anything to offer in regards to information, but I do know it's in the works.

Cheers,
