 | Having weird connection problems. I have the BYOD 50gb plan for Millenicom, and I am using the Sierra Wireless 598u with Sierra Watcher as my program of choice. I also am currently using the "Wilson Signal Boost Desktop Cellular Signal Booster Dual Band 800 & 1900mhz part # 801247.
Running Windows XP Service Back 2 on desktop and Windows 7 Basic on a net book.
That should be a sufficient amount of specs hopefully to diagnose my problem.
My problem I am having is as follows:
Had Millenicom since June and from June to September I lived 10 miles closer to town, so I was getting decent service for the most part. Now in September I am now living about 20 minutes from any town, I am out in the swamp basically in northern MN. There are some towers within a 5 miles radius of me, and actually when I am connected out here, it is better than where I was at before miraculously. But I am having weird connection issues.
I have it set to EVDO only on watcher as ixrtt is pretty much worthless to me out here, very slow, EVDO-A is my only viable connection as EVDO-O does not download anything when it is connected. Also, if on watcher it says EVDO-O, it will not even connect. It will only connect on EVDO-A, but it is difficult to get it, got to move the USB modem around until it lands it. Sometimes I even have to walk out side with my laptop to get the EVDO-A. But once I do it will always connect even with only 1 bar, then I usually bring it in and the Wilson amplifier fires it up to 5 bars. My dbm was at -44 this morning, and from what I gather, the lower that number is, the better, right? But now for some reason when I bring it back in the house, if the amplifier is plugged in It will switch me to the un usable EVDO-O, so right now I am just using the 2 bar EVDO-A with out the booster to be on the net at least. So, as you may gather, using the desktop to connect to it is virutually impossible unless I can get lucky and get EVDO-A connect in the house without going out side.
When I 1st brought everything out to where I am now, it worked perfectly for the 1st 4 days and then all this happened.
So the questions would be then, why does my booster switch me to O when I am connected to A without it? Why would it work fine for the 1st four days and then start being weird for the next 2 weeks?
Any input would be appreciated, and any other info you may need to know I will gladly try to answer.

| I think I remember someone saying that EVDO-REV-0 no longer exists, and it's just a glitch. I might be wrong tho. Did you try using Smartview?
Also, you are probably going to have to get a directional antenna, as you may be picking up signals from multiple towers. | | | I use smart view and it will only be in 1xrtt 90% of the time as my option to connect, rarely do I get it to be an EVDO connection in smart view.
As I am new to the whole wireless internet, if you say I need a directional antenna, what kind of antenna do I currently have (the wilson one), just so I know for future reference if I make more posts, also, if you would recommend a specific directional antenna for me to look into that would cool as well. | | Reviews:

| Well lets just leave the directional antenna as a last resort for now. If in smart-view you get 1xrtt showing then lock you modem into evdo-only mode. When it's in evdo only mode you should not get the 1xrtt connect option at all.
To be honest all your answers and headaches can be solved by going to »evdotips.blogspot.com/ | | | 99% of the time I have it locked in EVDO only, and when I do that, and try to connect with Smartview, I get error 651 ppp, as it only recognizes EVDO REV O, and i have a minimal chance of it connecting in Smartview or Watcher when it is on that,
1xrttt I can always connect, but it is as slow as dial up EVDO REV A will connect 95% of the time, with more than adequate speeds for out in the swamp.
If I am not connected, and my Wilson booster is plugged in, it will only show EVDO O, I need to unplug the booster to get EVDO A to show up. then when I am connected and reconnect the booster and for the most part it will not revert me back to EVDO REV O, but sometimes it does.
I don't know what I could have done on my end that could have caused these issues, as I said before, it did work fine for the 1st 4 days, then it started acting up.
So, the basic problems being, I can't get an EVDO-A connection option unless I run down my road a little bit, then it acquires it, then I come back in and the booster boosts it up to full signal. Will not do a EVDO A connection with the booster plugged in, if I just try to move the USB modem around in the house., has to be unplugged to get it, so I am basically limited to only going on the internet with my Windows 7 Starter Asus Netbook. | | | I know very little about the Wilson 801247 but based on your description of the problem it sounds like the Wilson booster plays a big part. I install EVDO and WiMax for people in fringe areas. For a fixed location I always use a well installed outside directional antenna system to provide reliable high speed internet service for the user. I never use amps, boosters or repeaters for a fixed installation. Jack installs RV Park WiFi systems and knows his stuff . Also the new version of The Cyfre CA819 can now be connected directly to a single band grid antenna . Jim from www.Evdo-tips.com has tested and installed many CYFRE CA819's with great success.
