| It's amazing how just because they make free software that they have every reason to install something else that you don't necessarily want. I had similar situation with Candy inclusion when downloading CDBurnerXP but it was pointed out to me that they do have other download options without Candy. I don't know if Super is the same way but one thing I did was to disable the update for CDBurnerXP so that I dont get something I will regret other than what I requested. If they want to get money they should have a donate here button and if people want to give cheerfully they will. |

Actually its spyware that'll deliver targeted ads depending on your browsing habits. theres also mention of a "whitesmoke toolbar" install. the thing about spyware is it'll download other unwanted crap. Actually im glad this had spyware because there was mention on videohelp of it breaking playback of certain formats. -- Oh YES! let me drop everything i'm doing regardless of who it affects to deal with your petty little problem! |

Doctor FourMy other vehicle is a TARDISPremium join:2000-09-05 Dallas, TX | reply to dvd536 I removed SUPER from my PC a few months ago when I decided I no longer needed it. Now I'm kind of glad I did so. It was a version from before Open Candy was bundled with it, though.
There have been some negative opinions about earlier versions, about how it is difficult to remove, yet I didn't have any trouble uninstalling it. -- I, for one, welcome our new Computer Overlords. |

 | reply to dvd536 Are these the "extras" that they give you the option to install or not during the install process? I've learned to just be watchful and choose to not install a toolbar or other software they've included. Monica |

Actually im glad this had spyware because there was mention on videohelp of it breaking playback of certain formats. Hi, I'm the Software Community Guru for OC. Developers use OpenCandy to earn money to offset the cost of development and support of their software by recommending other software during their installation process. During install, you'll see a (recommendation or "ad") screen which clearly describes the software being offered so you choose whether you'd like to install it or not. (Btw, all software in the network must meet stringent guidelines around user experience and safety (no malware, spyware, etc), details here: »opencandy.com/software-network-policies
OC is not spyware, does NOT deliver targeted recommendations ("ads"), nor look at (or come anywhere near) your browsing history. Also, there is NO transmission of *any* personal information. Our plug-in, which developers integrate into their installer to make recommendations, is only used during the installation and recommendation process. Once that process is complete, it is automatically removed. (A common misconception is that OC is installed on machines -- it isn't.)
If you'd like more info, check out our FAQs here: »www.opencandy.com/faqs/ and a detailed breakdown of what (NON-personally identifiable) info is transmitted here: »www.opencandy.com/privacy-matter···details/. The cool thing is that it's easy to independently verify what's transmitted by using Wireshark or Charles.

Thanks for the reply however as saturated as the software market is, i prefer 100% clean options specially when i'm looking for software that will be infrequently used. I believe it does a bit more than you say it does or the AV industry wouldn't be detecting it as PUP. -- Oh YES! let me drop everything i'm doing regardless of who it affects to deal with your petty little problem! |
