Re: Better Antenna Would the amp work with that directional antenna on the link? |

jsinmi join:2011-08-18 Honor, MI | reply to m12345s Build a reflector for your omni directional. Just did it myself this pat weekend, works like a champ. My problem was tower confusion (or whatever it's called). The bad stat for me was ec/io going between 8 and 12. Downloads between 100 kbs and 500 kbs
Did a bunch of searching, found a description of making a reflector out of wire mesh for wireless - to extnd range of wireless routers.
Did a lot of homework, made one out of chicken wire (which is way smaller mesh that you actually need for 800 Mhz.
Now ec/io runs between 4 and 7, and my downloads are running kbs to 1.4 mbs.
I had all the stuff laying around, probably cost $10 and a couple of hours to buy material and build. |

 | reply to m12345s Can anybody confirm max signal's comment, it looks like the same connector as the magnetic mount antenna on the picture. |

Max SignalPremium join:2008-03-07 Buffalo, NY kudos:1 | Wi-EX uses television cable - 75 ohms not 50 ohms such as other cellular amplification systems use ( television cable is much cheaper ). They also use F connectors that are made for Television connections . Cyfre amplifiers have TNC connectors ( again F connectors are much less expensive and have considerably more RF Loss ) . May look the same to you . It is different threading and will strip your amplifier threading eventually . |

Max SignalPremium join:2008-03-07 Buffalo, NY kudos:1 | Amplifiers purchased from an authorized dealer come with 1 Year replacement warranty . If there is a problem in that year return to point of purchase with sales receipt for testing and replacement if needed . There is no repair for amplifiers out of warranty |

 | reply to Max Signal Ok, I understand what your saying. |

Max SignalPremium join:2008-03-07 Buffalo, NY kudos:1 | It is a wi-ex , no good to anyone except Wi-Ex users as the do not use cellular cable - not the right ohm rating or connector . They use cheap television grade cable and connectors. I believe www.criterioncellular.com has real cellular directional panel antennas |

 | It is a Zboost directional panel antenna. |

| Agree with Max. Andrews antennas are 1st rate. A directional antenna is what you want if your signal level is on the bubble. Omnidirectional antennas, like those you have to use a ground plane with, will pick up signal from any tower around you, sometimes resulting in distortion and 'pilot hopping,' meaning your device keeps bouncing from one tower to another. You don't want that. Get a directional parabolic from Andrews and some low-loss coax, and you might not need an amp. -- Sierra 313U/AT&T 4G shared on dedicated laptop host, 2 LinkSys WiFi a/p, 4 XPPro units, FireFox everywhere. |
