| [Fixed] 2 mile wireless link I've been a fixed WISP user for 6 years and haven't seen any changes in the service for that time, which speedwise isn't working all that great. I've always been interested in the technology and have wanted faster internet at a cost effective price, so I've contacted the local cable company (Charter Communications) and have gotten the okay to establish a 2 mile wireless link to service my home from elsewhere. I luckily live on a hill which overlooks a large area capable of getting cable service up to 60Mbps - I want to broadcast this to my home, I've mapped out 2 possible remote areas for installation which are the same distance/LOS. The distance is 1.97 miles, and I've mapped the two possible links using LigoWave Link Calculator and plan on using the NanoBridge M NB-2G18 (thanks to this forum) to hopefully do the job for me. I was wondering if there was anything I might have missed - it's a seemingly simple link over a short distance, my home is on the hill (TX) and the cable install would be at the RX site, though I'm not 100% sure I even inputted the powerlevels correctly.
I did have a couple of questions though related to the project:
1) At the install site where I would approach a home/property owner, how best should I power my equipment? I would like to avoid using their power, so this either leaves some kind of solar (not cost effective) or a local hookup from just the power company - I've heard that they have special hookups (meterless) you can request for applications that don't vary in power requirements - IE a flat-rate electric connection without setting up an unyielding meter that just adds "clutter" to the other equipment on the pole.
2) I don't actually have a DOCSIS 3 modem in mind, or haven't found one for this application... I would like something that would function in a waterproof airtight enclosure and sustain Texas heat.
here is the link by the way.

 | reply to xexx You can build the solar stuff for under $400
Do you have line of site between the two sites? If so, discard using the 2.4ghz stuff and use 5ghz |
