Re: [Caps] Caps totally confuse Me!! said by fuziwuzi:said by AVonGauss:You still seem to be confusing speed vs quantity. Let's forget the car analogy and pick on popcorn. I don't need a microwave to make popcorn, I could use the stove - it is just going to take a bit longer (and probably taste better, but that's not relevant). Just because the microwave makes the popcorn faster, that does not mean I'm going to want more popcorn.
... and just to be clear, this isn't even a defense of a "cap" or really a threshold, but rather a disagreement that more speed intrinsically means more consumption - often represented as a linear increase. What possible use to a HOME USER is 50Mbps service if not for multiple streams of online content? But using those multiple streams of online content will get you capped. So, then, the 50Mbps service, for the average HOME USER, is pointless and illogical except for bragging rights. You are 100% correct, to most common users the regular package is good enough. For me, a home user who likes speed, I get the blast tier. Is it a waste for me? No. When I download that steam game, I want it sooner rather than later and thats what I pay the extra $10 a month for. Then there are large files I upload and download to and from my website that I don't want to wait for. You see this as pointless and illogical. I see this as a necessity. Who is right here? We both are. I am sure I could pick through your habits and find things that are a waste of money to me, but thats my opinion. You may find these things a necessity and worth paying for.
In the end, its up to the consumer to do what he wants to do. You may voice your opinion and even say that people "aren't getting it". Please try not to be closed minded and confrontational. Please try to look at the entire situation before you pass judgement on people. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |
