 | [Mobile] Cricket 3G worked for a few days then stuck at 1x CDMA I picked up a Cricket A600 modem on sale at Radio Shack, with the intention of replacing my current provider. Cable and DSL are not available to me so mobile broadband I have found is my best option.
I'm within the Cricket coverage map for 3G data. And it worked great for the first few days. I was getting EVDO Rev A connections, 3 or 4 bars signal strength, and downloads around 1 Mbps.
But then suddenly on about day 3 it would connect only at 1x CDMA from my residence. I thought this odd. Cricket support had me uninstall and reinstall the software, reactivate, do a manual activation, and check some things after entering a password in the software. But in the end they gave me boilerplate excuse about buildings being in the way and the weather.
So I tried the modem on my netbook, but it did the same thing.
So I decided to try some broadband driving. I took the netbook in my car with the modem on the dashboard. It was getting great signal strength, but it would not connect at EVDO until I got about 10 miles north of my residence. Then from there I was golden as far as 35 miles north (the furthest I tried it).
I can't figure out why it worked great at EVDO Rev A for 3 days at my residence then would connect only at 1x CDMA at my residence after that. Any ideas?
My guess is that I was somehow connected to a non-Cricket tower those first three days, then I got blocked from it. I get great EVDO Rev. A signal strength through Sprint at my residence.
I even bought a second Cricket modem, but could not get that to connect at 3G from my residence.
I was really hoping it would work, since the Cricket plan is quite a bit less than what I am paying now. |
