Re: [Bill] farewell comcast!

said by NormanS:

Nevertheless, "FiOS" (as it is written properly) is a registered trademark of Verizon, just as "Coke" is a registered trademark....

Interestingly, the plain word "fios" means "knowledge" in the Irish language. But as you say, "FiOS" is a Verizon trademark.

said by NormanS:

Kleenex, Aspirin, and Fridge were also once registered trademarks ("Aspirin" lost its status as part of the war reparations levied against Germany at the end of WWI).

Kleenex is still a registered trademark. Although it treads dangerously close to being genericized (losing trademark status) that has not occurred yet.

Aspirin is still a trademark in Canada.

I agree with those who complain about the original post.

If someone is going to rant about their bill, they must include a detailed line-by-line explanation of the charges. This has not been done, and we have no idea how a purported total of $ 700 was arrived at.

The $ 700 is a suspiciously round number, BTW. Maybe it's $ 688.37 and maybe it's $ 711.63, but I doubt that it is exactly $ 700.

Actually there is plenty of hogs on your node you just don't know it. there is people right now using hacked modems and are downloading at over 100mbps all day and uploading all day destroying your speed and they don't even pay for the service. but never fear we are catching them and prosecuting them into the jail cell they will now call home.... report cable thief's to the cable cops.

for your info the 4 way splitter was dropping critical db's, also the 250 install is to certify the house for 105 so there is no complaints and issues for months after the upgrade that your not getting the speeds desired and wanting credit on your bill.

Not certain how one would hack a DSL modem. Until June 15, my modem would synch at 3008/512 on a PPPoE ADSL circuit; exactly what I paid for. Allowing for the 15% overhead, explained in one of the DSL forums, my throughput was consistently:

Except for a couple of rare moments, which might have been congestion at the aggregation router:

I never fired up Wireshark for a look, though. Normal throughput returned after a couple of days, so it could have been anything.

Subsequent to June 15 my modem synch is variable; my new ISP lets the modem and DSLAM negotiate the most reliable synch possible for the distance. DHCP ADSL2+, and synch has been fairly consistent at just under 6000, with throughput at 85%:

Congestion need not be "bandwidth hogs". Even a Porsche Carrera can't consistently hit 160 mph on the freeway in the midst of ten thousand Volkswagen "Beetles".

AT&T is blaming "bandwidth hogs" for their "node congestion" (actually, "exhausted aggregation routers"). But the widespread suspicion is that AT&T is expending capital on "regulatory capture", instead of plant upgrades. I fired them because of their caps; even though I wasn't close to hitting them, myself.

I think he was referring to hacked cable modems, Not dsl modems. It isnt a huge problem but it still exists.

But he did refer to "my node"!
