Re: [Skype] Can't buy "Skype for Asterisk" after July I have read their reply, and it in no way explains how they got the exact results from a false/made-up search that Google used in their sting. MS got caught using Google to get search results for Bing, they don't have as good of product so they co-opted Google's search engine for themselves, and without letting Google or anyone else know they were doing so. Just like they have used Linux and other open source code in their products and have never adhered to the GNU public license and released the source they use and have modified. MS is not some benevolent company, as you seem to think. They rarely have innovated anything. They buy, copy and steal other people and companies achievements and then market them as their own. -sigh-

UPDATE: In an interview after the panel , Bing director Adam Sohn lashed out at Google, saying the search giant was being hypocritical and that it could have simply picked up the phone.
We arent scraping search results, Sohn said. Everyone uses clickstream data in search. If Google was two percent of the internet, then maybe we wouldnt look at what users do, but Google is a huge part of the internet.
Sohn called the results outliers and that Googles test was actually akin to a spammer attack that pushed our system to a limit. It is possible Google was trying to establish some anti-Microsoft press. IIRC Google isn't exactly transparent about how it's search engines work, at least not in detail.

| reply to mazilo I agree with Mazilo on this one.
He made a good suggestion. Some people here could carry it out, while others (including me) don't have the expertise for it. But it does not detract from the value of what he suggested.
Mazilo has been very helpful with these sorts of issues to many people.

 | On a related note, I am wondering what going to happen in the future for MSN. Will Microsoft keep it continuing as is or will also be a paid service? In addition, does anyone have any idea, or even rumors/speculations, about what Google will do regarding gtalk/google voice? I don't track these very closely so please forgive me for my ignorance. |

if i had to take a guess i would say in a couple years the skype technology/P2P protocol will be powering the new version of MSN/Live messenger, and the actually skype branded service will have been retired.
perhaps existing skypenames will become Microsoft live ID's in the form: skypename@skype.net |
