I've seen some people on here talk about how you should only use Galves.com for used car prices. I'm thinking about buying a used truck to haul a boat that I'm also thinking of buying. Galves.com is giving me a value $2025 less than NADAGuides.com. The truck is a 2008 Dakota Laramie. NADAGuides.com clean trade in value is $16650 and Galves.com has it at $14625.
So should I trust NADAGuides.com, the resource that I have used for 15 years of buying vehicles, or Galves.com, the resource I've only heard about from people on this site.
Galves.com is a wholesale price. It is an average of whatever car you choose has sold for at an auction. I tell people to use it for trade in values because when you trade in a car (usually) they wholesale the car. That is the price they will be paid for the car, so why should you get any less? Sometimes they will choose to retail your car as a used vehicle and make more money off it. Depends on the dealer.

So why the big difference though between the Galves value and what NADAGuides says is the clean trade in value. Surely people aren't getting $16650 on average for trade in an then the dealers are selling at auction for an average of $14625.
