Wolfsmane,

Can you rule out the possibility that its a networking issue on your end?

For example, depending on your connection type/medium (wired or wireless), your speeds can be lower on wireless (even on wired if it's less than 100Mbit or configured wrong)

Also, some older routers only have a 10BaseT connection to the WAN interface, so you would see speeds Under 10Mbit.

What is your connection setup exactly (router? wired/wireless/usb?, etc...)

Thanks scrawnyb.

I have it directly wired, no router yet. I have it wired with ethernet cable, not usb.

Here's mine I just ran. Here's the kicker - when downloading a large file from newsgroups, while using my DSL 6mb/down connection, I consistently have speeds from 5.8mb to 7mb. When downloading the same using ABB, my speed ranges from 1.6mb to 3.8mb. The hisgest speed I've seen using ABB with the newsgroups is a couple of spikes of around 4.8mb, but just briefly.

heres my latest test, my connection is fine and i get max speed when downloading after midnight and before 4pm in the afternoon, but right around 5pm EVERY day, my connection takes a nose dive, i cant even play xbox because it causes me to redbar in halo and call of duty in the middle of the afternoon

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3609 kbps (451.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1620 kbps (202.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Ive had atleast 8 techs at my house in the last year and a half to fix this, its a ON going issue that hasn't ever been fixed, and if the dsl around here wasnt only 3Mb/256K, i would switch..

The fastest mine gets is around 9mb, early in the morning.

Have your techs come to any conclusion as to why such poor performance?

I haven't canceled my DSL yet, because if this doesn't change, I'll be dropping ABB like a hot potato!

from what i remember i was told a node was bad in my area, and at the end of my street there was a birds nest that was messing with the wires on the pole, that was in early to mid 2010, 3 techs came to my house with there laptops and witnessed the speed issues for them selfs and nothing that they have done have fixed it..

I don't think ABBs speedtest is accurate. It has been showing that my speed is >14mbs/1.6mbs.

But every other speedtest ran will show 5mbs. The rate at which I download files also tells me that ABB is much slower than the ATTs DSL 6mb service I have.

ABB speedtest runs on a server in their datacenter, so you're seeing what they're offering to you at your modem. ABB's uplink to the internet either can't keep up, or the speedtest site was slow when you were testing.

ive had speed issues for over a year, and have had 8 techs to my house, i dont think that its a issues with just websites uplink speeds..

Definitely NOT a speedtest site issue.
