smoki join:2000-10-19 Oakville, ON | Any plans to increase caps? Are there any plans on increasing the bandwidth caps, specifically for Ultimate 30?
Face it, a 125GB cap for a 30Mbit connection is complete joke, I'm not asking for unlimited usage (max I've ever used was 144GB) I just think a 200GB cap would be more reasonable and would bring back a lot of customers who left, like me, for Teksavvy.
I left in '06 because of throttling, but I'm thinking of coming back.
5Mbit is way too slow these days, but having to worry about getting dinged an extra $30 bucks if I go over is much worse.
Ultimate 30 with a 200GB(or more ) cap would be perfect. |

| Last week I met a low income woman that banned her kids from using youtube and Facebook, because she was charged overage fees and thought, because her kids were on those the most, that they were the cause of the fees... If Cogeco has no plans to upgrade their caps to a more reasonable level, I wish they would put their customers before their profits, and explain to their customers what could be causing their overage fees. That's about the fifth time this year someone's asked me if one of those two sites caused their overage fees.
Customer gets an overage fee, a paper insert "guide for dummies" explaining possible causes, such as neighbours steal signal on their open wireless (common), kids downloading their music or movies for burning, kids downloading demos with their consoles, leaving their downloading programs on (which leaves them uploading), etc... |

I've thought about going back to Cogeco a couple of times, even called in to see if they'd waive the install fee to bring me back (yup), but then I start thinking of those caps and overage charges and I come to my senses. I can't handle the 125G, nor the $50 max charge. Far too unreasonable. That's $110/MO pre-HST. For those prices (a little less actually) I'll stick with TSI (2xMLPPP unlimited, unthrottled) and eat the speed loss. 8.5 down is fine until the CRTC rules on UBB then I'll review.

Mike This is why I didn't go to Teksavvy. I could have went the MLPPP route, but...
A business connection, with a 200G "cap" (and it's no secret what cap means on business accounts), and a static IP address runs ~$101 after HST w/ Cogeco. That's for 16/1. You have to be pretty close to that price range with the double connections and dry/wet loop fees from Bell and TSI for those speeds you have today.
Considering I need business-class service for work, it was a no brainer and less complicated set up. Patiently waiting for the 30-level business class service here as I need the static IP and unfiltered ports. |

What's better *maybe* an extra $30 in overages or guaranteed $65 from a new sub. ( more in my case because I'll bundle it with VoIP so they'll get $80)
I just don't understand why bandwidth became such huge issue all of a sudden ( decline in cable tv subs...?) that Cogeco, Bell, Rogers felt the need to start enforcing these draconian caps.
It's not like their networks were suffering, or they were losing money, I don't get it... wtf happened?
All I'm asking for is a fair, realistic cap, I would love to come back, and I'm sure many others would as well. |

SOMETHING needed to be done for sure. Like maybe upgrading their network so Youtube usage wouldn't bring it to it's knees.
Pathetic excuse. |

That's what happened. Pretty simple.
However, there is only one true thief here, and it isn't that low income earner. |

Then what? Make another press release saying they were wrong in calling their beloved customers thieves? You referenced that twice; can you provide a link to the press release, I'm interested to see it. |
|
 | It's in this very forum. If you don't find it, ask me again and I'll and search myself.
Please note, I'm not being sarcastic. I'm only just as lazy as you are. Nothing more. |

If they do it'll just prove to everyone in Canada and the CRTC that Cogeco is out of step and anti-consumer compared to every other cable company ithat was cable to reach a deal with Teksavvy with caps intact. |

I'm only just as lazy as you are. Nothing more. Nope, the onus is on you to provide a citation to validate the claim you made twice, which seems exaggerated. No proof, it's not true. Provide a link of Cogeco calling their customers thieves, you're all good... |
